Just watched it!
I was left with the feeling that off-screen Bette Davis became, with the increasing years, a monster! It was sad to learn that she ended up regarding all forms of human relationships as disappointing endeavours and found that her work was more satisfying. Behing Davis' bravado in interview clips, she seemed a very bitter woman who described her four marriages as 'awful'. It was also terrible to learn that she could be physically violent when drunk! A very sad life. She's a great marvellous actress, one of the best and I admire her for that, but as a human being I ended up feeling sorry that her personal life and personal psychology was such a mess.
I watched this with my great-aunt who's 79 and a big fan of Bette Davis, who for many women of her generation, Bette Davis been seen as a sort of pre-feminist inspiration. She was also saddened at Davis' not so successful off-screen life and we were both left wondering if all those Oscars that Davis had worked so hard for, were worth the price that it cost her.
