Did anyone else think this was terrible?

I think the Clash were the greatest band ever, but this documentary sucks. They tried to make it waaay to arty with a bunch of "tortured artist" *beep*

Westway to the World is much better.

Well this wasn't a Clash doc was it? It was a Joe Strummer doc.

I think it represented itself pretty well.

I have to admit, though, 2 hours plus was pushing the envelope a bit. I wouldn't sit thru a bio about my Mom for 2 hours, and she is some pretty interesting sh*t. It shows to go ya that no one is that interesting. Not Ghandi, Joe, the Pope, or my Mom. Even Joe knows that you gotta keep peoples asses in the seats, and leave 'em wanting more.

The future droned on and on and on. People's asses get itchy. Make yer point and move on.

I thought thsi film was very well made, it showed all the various ascpects, quirks, pluses and minuses of Joe's character and talent. The 2 hours just flew by for me. I wasn't sure what toexpect, and I was very pleasantly surpised at the end product.

Actually, after Glastonbury (Temple's previous doc. that I thought lost the battle to bring together all of it's jagged parts) this was pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed it but i did think it rambled on a bit too much.Do we really need to know what peaches geldof thinks of joe strummer?julian temple should have trimmed about 15 - 20 mins off it.

reply

That wasn't Peaches Geldof, that was Joe's step-daughter. He raised her from when she was really young. I would think she'd have a lot to say about her father.

reply

Maybe you mean Peaches Geldof is Joe's goddaughter.

This movie was much better than Westway because it wasn't "band-authorized" and it wasn't afraid to show some of Joe's dark side. Westway didn't actually provide me with any particular insight into the band except that they had a good time and made some good music.

I know I'm shouting, I like to shout.

reply

I enjoyed the old footage but otherwise left a real empty feeling. Like, so Joe Strummer was a blowhard and it didn't show any other side to him.

it was a love letter to the guy, but most music bio's are. He deserves it more than most.
