Have not seen thi movie but

I haven't seen this movie but i think more movies should be made in regards to how to keep yourself from getting bird flu if and at the moment it is a if...bird flu pandemic begins.

We all know that washing your hands in crucial and try to avoid touching our face. That can be difficult but needs to be done. There are also talks of wearing a mask that covers the mouth and nose and wearing glasses. If anyone wants a clue of a type of mask the Michael jackson mask is seen as acceptable.

Dress warmly, have plenty of fruit and water.

Also i am not happy with how some governments of many countries have reacted, some are just not taking it seriously. For three years now we have heard about the threat but some have not stockpiled on drugs that can help in some way.

Another point when bird flu first appeared vacinating chickens and birds would have help. Alright all of them would be a impossible task but as much as possible would have made sense. I keep hearing if it mutates, if it mutates, well haven't we got samples of common human flu's, take a sample of H5N1 combine them with all the flu's we have and make a vacination according to that?

Then again i guess experts who have more grades and brians than me have a better idea how to do it.

This is no joke, it is serious, at the moment it hasn't mutated into a more dangerous form, as soon as it does, be very very careful people.

There is one way to stop in coming via airplanes. Governments should work together with airport's and companies. If there is anyone who are showing signs of a flu on a flight to report it. Have everyone in the plane held back when it lands, check them and if they have it, give everyone on board Tamiflu.

Just a idea!

So anyone have any views on Bird Flu?

I have another point to make about Bird Flu Virus. We all the talk about mutation, i did some looking up and discovered the virus was discovered around 1997, it is now 2006, nine years and counting and the bird flu virus still has not mutated into a version that can spread easily from human to human.

That doesn't mean it won't mutate but scientists have talk of a human flu virsu and bird flu virus combined can cause the pandemic. Either in nine years we have been really lucky the bird flu has not caught someone with the human flu or we can argue the unthinkable that bird flu just does not have that ability, i guess it would be foolish to think the latter.

I know there have been talk that the virus has changed and mutated but so far in nine years it has not yet managed to spread from human to human.

Actually, there have been isolated cases when suspected human-to-human transmission might have occurred. But the WHO alert level efficient human-to-human transmission have not yet been detected.

Yes, you are right in saying that it raises the question, whether H5N1 even posesses the capability to mutate to a more efficient form. All are interesting research questions. On the one hand, not observing something does not mean that it is not possible.

If you haven't seen this movie yet try to find it somewhere (I don't know where). A friend of mine taped it along with the headline news dialogue afterward. That was very interesting. Maybe you can find it online or something.
The Secretary of Health and Human services said anything you do before a pandemic seems alarmist, and after a pandemic starts it all seems inadequate (paraphrased). Sadly there is no way to be 100% prepared for something like this.
Vaccine...your's is a good idea. There actually is a vaccine for the current H5N1 virus. Most likely the virus will mutate to ensure it's survival. From what I've read the last 3 pandemics (1918, 1957, 1968) started with a bird virus that was probably spread to pigs and then humans. From what has been seen so far, the virus that has affected humans is basically the same from human to human. If H5N1 does spark a pandemic the virus will have mutated. No question about it. Because right now a few cases have been seen of human to human (Son to mother or nephew to aunt that kind of thing). There have even been a cluster or two of 6-8 cases of Bird flu within a close group.
There is a key gene that keeps the virus in birds and from spreading rapidly in humans. I heard that several scientists are working to create a vaccine on that.
Something needs to be done to increase vaccine production. It's one thing to finally come up with a vaccine, but then to be able to produce it in mass quantities is something else...
The thought of relying on Tamiflu scares me. Some patients with H5N1 in SE Asia have shown drug resistance which could be a sign of a slight mutation.

If there is one thing I've learned is that awareness is key. While ignorance is bliss, sometimes it's good be aware of what's going on and be prepared.
