the white room and its technicians

was any one else awestruck during the scene in which the two heroes first walk into the white room? the way the technicians are absorbed into the whiteness is awesome, it would be great to know how they got that effect. also, the control panels and electronics in the room are of the most bad ass caliber. reminds me a lot of HAL and the computers in 2001: a space odyssey. one thing i was confused by though was how the latex putty material was put on our robot heroes. you see the technicians douse them in the putty and smear it on with sticks, but when the shot changes to include all the characters, you can't see their helmets, or the putty that the guys are supposed to be rubbing around. i don't know if this was a slip or intentional. honestly, it makes no difference to me, i loved the film. awesome cinematography, awesome music, awesome symbolism/metaphorical *beep* what does everyone else think of this part of the flick?

I'd venture to suggest the white guy's effect was accomplished with the simple application of chroma-key technology. What that scene over, but instead of seeing white, imagine everything as green. It's quite simple.

I don't think they used that. There was a close-up shot of one of the technicians' glove and it had wrinkles that wouldn't have been there if it was shot with green costumes and all. I don't know much about the stuff.

I think they just over-exposed those scenes to make the whites wash out. Looked beautiful.
