I somehow seemed to miss this in the movie - how did Alex die?

He died in the Revolution, because the little boy writes to his sister that when they visited the Cemetery of Heroes with their class, they took flowers to his grave too. You could guess he was shot while out in the streets, but the film is not clear on this.

Yeah.. the kid says: At Vomica (Alex)`s grave, the kids in my class, put a lot of flowers.

Oh boy I saw the movie but I didn't realise Alex had died... I just didn't listen very well when the little brother was writing to his sister... I was just wondering about what happened to Alex... I liked him, preety boy...:) , I'm sorry his character died in the revolution. If I wouldn't have read here I wouldn't have known...

I had to rewind it because I thought I missed it too..and it's not clear. But shortly after they see people getting shot in the Revolution, and they watch people being buried, she is alone in her room and she sees Alex outside. He runs away and climbs over the fence, and the camera pans down. I missed it the first time -- but there's no footprints left in the snow. So presumably that's the point right after he's died in the movie, it's just never explained how.

And then later, the letter from her brother, confirms it.
