Bubblegum Balloon ?

An article in the newspaper made me trigger to watch this movie. And without regret, I think this movie is marvellous. Showing aswell the revolution in these small villages and portraying it in such a way, for me this it really contributes to the understanding of the historical uprising against Ceausescu.

One thing I do not understand:

Near the end (1.15) of the movie the child is trying to play the guitar, when his sister takes over and him chewing bubblegum. Then a quite surreal scene starts with the child blowing a huge bubblegum, which lifts in the air and the children scream 'its not bursting'...

This dreamlike scene with its confusing music was nice,
but I did not really knew what it ment...

(for my understanding it was totally out of place, creating
a sort of kusturica twist to it...)

Can somebody help me explain the (methaphorical) meaning of it ????

Kind Regards from Holland

It was a childrens fantasy, earlier in the movie they mention that they are too poor to afford bubble gum.

But wasn't this right after Eva received a package from Andrei, the guy who managed to cross the Danube river? She got a bunch of gifts from him, including a pair of new jeans, chocolate, etc. I assumed the bubble gum was sent along with the rest of the goods.

And yes, that scene with the bubblegum balloon was quite surreal.
