i kinda get all the hate, but then again i don't

yep, this is an odd movie with a very unlikely script - yes, they could just buy new tapes; yes they are idiots. but this is just how it was, meant to be, i guess. it is a silly, fantasy, sweet, funny movie that ultimately pays tribute to movies and to how much one can *love* movies :) plus, it portraits resilience, friendship, cooperation, local identity building and imagination! and i would like to underline *imagination* because the movie shows how you can overcome budget limitations when making a movie! i mean, look at the ways, they figured out how to replicate some of the scenes and tell me they weren't creative! of course, it is exagerated, but it is supposed to be!

i actually loved all the characters and interpretations, they are sort of naive, well intentioned people with big hearts and big imaginations!

in the end, i think this movie shows how something that was a "lie" to begin with may end up turning into something good, if the intention is good and if it actually engages people in something meaningful!

i just rewatched it, and gladly rated it 7.

I thought the premise sounded hilarious, but there was just soooooo much in this movie that just fell flat. All the character development was terrible, and about 70% of the jokes were just "off"..

Still, the scenes where they're actually re-filming the movies are enjoyable. And the ending was pretty sweet.

I Loved It. Rated A 9.

I don't get the hate, either. I think it's quite a fine little movie about community and quietly, gentrification.

I think people give it a watch who are expecting a typical Jack Black comedy and thus, don't get it.
