Dan Crane? (Kinda hoax?)

Nah, I think it has to do more with his determination and personality, not to mention the way things played out. He came in second in the first contest, it's not like they would have paid off the judges. Carson Daly picked him up since Jimmy Kimmel had #1 booked. I doubt some random guys doing a documentary could arrange that. Then he really worked at making it... and come on, there's no way they could have paid/coerced their way for him getting 1st place in the Finnish qualifier. He was a genuinely good competitor with a great personality. They lucked out in being able to present the story the way they did. The only 2 year champion was impressed!

Dan Crane wrote and performed the song that plays over the closing credits, so I'm sure that's where the "original music" credit comes from.

Ha...selected by the producers? No. I was asked in a panic 2 weeks before the movie was going to the SXSW festival if I could replace 20 music cues they couldn't afford to license. The director knew I had a band and obviously had an affinity for the music so she asked if I could do it. Check out the DVD extras...I loved doing the music, but it was 3 years after my first competition.
