I honestly thought he was kind of awful and overacted in this particular role.
I think he was going for disturbing, but he came off as ridiculous and out of control. His shouts and 'intensity' didn't add to the tension; it bordered on comical and mostly distracted from the scenes, instead of adding to it.
I found the game-master from the original French version to have played the role in a better way. Manic, but not cartoonish.
Exactly what I thought.
Besides, the whole movie was a joke, with the strangling scene (50 cent vs Mickey Rourke) to be the biggest joke of it all. To anyone out there still considering whether to watch this movie: Save your time.
