A little confusion I'd like to clear up

I really enjoyed 'You Kill Me', particularly thanks to Sir Ben Kingsley and Tea Leoni's bitingly witty and touching performances; their chemistry was undeniable for me! I am, however, confused on two points that I was hoping some fellow IMDb posters might help me understand:

1. What was the attraction that brought together Frank and Laurel? At my first viewing of the film, their relationship seemed a bit forced.

2. Why was Frank driven to begin drinking again towards the film's middle? I guessed it was Laurel's decision to not stay the night with him, but that didn't seem like a very severe a blow.

If anyone could offer some insight here I'd be very appreciative. Thanks!

1. I think is was the foward dark friendliness of Laurel, yeah it wasn't really explained well in my opinion. Infact could have been just a little more, but I also think that Frank was trying to open up.

2. The Polish were having problems with Frank being gone, as he was useful to them. With rival problems getting larger and realizing that he had kind of created the problem with his drinking problem, which kind of resulted in the problems. Along with Laurel saying no. But overall I think it was kind of his choice, just feeling low or kind of a detox problem.

Agreed though they were not clearly put throughout the film.
