It's a really great popcorn movie.

You don't have to be a Star Trek fan to enjoy it, just someone who enjoys good science fiction movies.

I think you are the right audience then : I don't know much about Trek and I liked it.

It's NOT Star Trek. Keep that in mind. I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point for Star Trek. Watch TOS, TNG, any Star Trek series you want, watch any of the Star Trek movies, but don't watch this. I wouldn't recommend this crappy awful reboot.

Absolutely! I loved this movie! My teenage son (who didn't really get into any of the older Star Trek, likely due to his age) also LOVES this new reboot. He says he likes it way better than Star Wars, although I never like to compare the two. You don't have to have any background in Star Trek to appreciate it. It's fun, adventurous, funny, and sci-fi. This one (the 2009 movie) is my favorite of the three most recent ones, although my son said he really likes the newest one the best (Beyond)

I'm a huge trek fan, from the original movies, to The Next Generation, Voyager, and my some of my favorite movies First contact and Nemesis (also can't leave out Star Trek IV). And I absolutely love this reboot, too.

you should..in fact many people who love the new ST films have never even seen any of the old ST series or movies.
