'Acting is ...

... a profession of sensitivity, not appearances'. I love this line and it's true. The type of actor and acting I prefer comes from emotional/intuitive sensitivity for the character rather than merely looking the part or playing a role. In films that recreate historical figures I think the sense conveyed of the person is more important than the appearance being accurate though if you find both, as with Duris as Moliere, then that's a bonus.

As an aside another favourite line was: 'my quill was guided by your beauty'.

To say a little often is to tell more than to say a great deal.

Wasn't it fun, in a film about the magic of acting, how Molière taught both Monsieur Jourdain and his wife Elmire to act? Wasn't she tremendous trying to con 20,000 pounds out of her tight husband? And didn't he achieve such sad dignity in drag when he reproached the false Célimène?

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

Btw, are you going to answer my last question to you re-A Man Escaped ..?

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.
