I loved this movie.

I liked the lack of music and more subtle humor. I kinda think the movie is exclusively for Stargate fans, or at least it helps a lot. Not to mention my love for this movie was probably amplified by going to Dragon Con and meeting Paul/Chris, but nonetheless, I REALLY loved this movie. Even though it was pretty low budget, all the scenes flowed smoothly and David Hewlett is pretty great as a psycho. The writing was downright awesome.

My only complaint was that Paul wasn't really in but half the movie.

Not dead! UNNDEEADD! rofl at that scene.

LOL I just watched the movie and i thought it was GREAT, probably because i love both the stargates. When i came on here to look at the full cast i noticed Rachel Luttrell was in it. Which part was she in because i don't remember seeing her?

reply

She was the sexy alien in Star Crossed, the cheesy series they were watching

I've just this second finished the film and I absolutely loved it! I haven't laughed that hard in ages!

Rachel was Ryan's fictional characters love. The only thing I could think of was Teyla and Carson getting together, which would be totally out of place in the Stargate universe. :P

I watched it for the third time this weekend. I keep seeing things that I didn't catch in prior viewings. Christopher Judge was hysterical in this.
I agree that it is very subtle humor----but I enjoy not being bashed over the head with in-your-face jokes. Great film!!

I too loved this movie. I watched it 11 times now and everytime I watch it I see something that I missed here and there. I laughed so hard the first time that I had to watch it again and again. Laughed so hard shot Diet Coke out my nose. Which is very painful. Also fell of my bed.

For this being David's first try at writing, directing, and starring in it he did an awesome job.

Well, David is a great actor, indeed, and he has proven himself to be a great writer and director as well - I'd really like to see him in something else to confirm, that he also can play a calm settled man with no psychosis, because that's something he hasn't demonstrated either in the SG (either of them) or here. But as for the movie, it was absolutely amazing! I've been laughing my head off throughout the entire movie, so I'm fairly certain I'll play it again this evening. Just sorry I hadn't downloaded it earlier, mind you...

You're not pleasant, when you're like this, Rodney.**I'm always like this.**My point exactly.

Try checking out some of David's other work. Most of it is distinctly artsy Canadian. Generally not my thing, but David is excellent in them. Cube is creepy and whatnot, but David plays a very different role. Century Hotel only has him in certain sections (very odd film) and an extremely different role. David is actually an excellent dramatic actor which actually shows up in his role on Stargate: Atlantis, but often gets forgotten because so many just get a kick out of his McKayisms. :D

Cheers!

I just finished watching it and yes, this is a great movie. I will admit that if I wasn't an obsessed Stargate fan then I wouldn't find this to be very good... I'd write it off pretty quickly as another low budget boring flop. However, I am a Stargate junkie and the mere presence of David Hewlett on the screen is enough for me to enjoy anything!

The movie had me laughing quite a bit and it's definitely recommended to any Stargate fan. If you're not a Stargate fan... you should seriously take a few weeks off of work and start catching up on about 14 seasons.

Just in case people didn't know, there is most likely going to be a sequel to this movie: A Dog's Breakfast 2. Also, as many probably know, there is Starcrossed the spinoff that's going to occur.

In a recent audio interview (About a week ago) David was talking about how they want to start filming but he's been so busy and hasn't been able to make time for it. Paraphrased, he said if he doesn't get into gear soon they will go on without him, but he has full intentions of being on the show.

I plan to support all of David's work, and any work of fellow Stargate actors/actresses (we all know about Amanda's new show, I assume).

I did not find in any way that one needs to be a Stargate fan to enjoy this film. You certainly don't need to see Stargate to watch it. You might appreciate the actors range more simple because, for instance, Chris in ADB is definitely not Teal'c. So, yes, that's certainly part of the fun for the Strargate crowd but it in no way means others can't or wont enjoy the movie. It's just such a fun, quirky, little film which nicely stands all on it's own:) I agree that David really did a great job as a first time director & writer and I'm also very much looking forward to see what he comes out with next.
As for wondering if David can pull off other types of roles, the answer is a resounding YES. David really is talented. I just watched Cube again on IFC the other night. I also particularly liked him in Nothing (another great, and totally out there comedy) & IceMen. All of which you can order from Amazon.

I've shown this film to a lot of people who've never watched Stargate (either one), and they have loved it. You do not have to be a Stargate fan to enjoy this film. It has enough goodness to stand on it's own. The Stargate actors are just a bonus for the fans. :D

Don't think you need to be a Stargate fan to appreciate this gem of a movie. Yes, some of the guys from Stargate are in it - but they are playing different characters.

Don't let that put you off from watching a brilliant family murder comedy - you're kick yourself if you do :)

I lent A Dog's Breakfast to my in-laws who do NOT watch any of the Stargate shows or any of David's other work. They thought it was great. My MIL said it had English humor and was really funny.

So obviously then, you don't have to be a Stargate fan to like the show.
And, I don't know why people keep saying that when it's not true. *big sigh*

I just saw it again at Shore Leave in July 2008 and they put the captions on. It was even funnier in some parts with the captions. LOL I still haven't watched the extra features....I know...I'm a bad squirrel, but I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Either buy it or rent it, but give it a chance.

Great movie...two thumbs up.

David and Kate have great chemistry. Paul Mcgillion is great even as Detective Morse. And who can't love Mars the dog.

I've never seen anything that has Stargate in its name, and didn't even know the connection. I checked the movie out because it was mentioned somewhere that it had an Aspie for main character. And I loved it! Great writing and acting.
Surprisingly good production values, too. The budget came as a total surprise.
