This movie promotes illegal immigration

Ok, I'm not against immigrants coming into this country, but only if they come here legally and abide by our laws. This movie makes the INS look bad. It wants us to feel sorry for the illegal Mexican immigrants. It makes the law here seem harsh and cruel. I didn't feel sorry for anyone in this movie. Yeah, it sucked that the mom lost her job with that rich, white snob, but she's still illegal. Carlitos came here illegally and yet they make it seem like a beautiful thing. At the green house where all those immigrants were arrested, it made it seem like it was a bad thing they were being arrested for breaking the law. How backwards is that??!!??!!
I will admit was a good movie, but it still wanted us to feel sorry for those who are here illegally. It made us Americans look mean and hateful.
This post is not meant to be hateful, I don't hate anyone. I just want people to be here legally and abide by our laws. There are so many immigrants that come here and crime shoots up.

This movie does not promote illegal immigration. At no point does it say, "Illegal Immigration is okay." What this movie does, is it offers up an argument for more understanding on the part of those who have not seen this human side of it, yet they sit in power and make judgements. Scores of people in this country have no idea what it feels like to literally have no idea where you're going to eat tomorrow yet they go to the voting booths and decide to close our doors to those in need. I dont think this is what Jesus had in mind when he reminded us if our brother asks for our coat, give him our shirt too.

You my friend need to come of age, and then you'll see that there is another side of life that is "criminal" only out of dire necessity.

Thanks,

Justin

How can you say it doesn't promote illegal immigration??!!??!! It makes us Americans look bad and the people who guard our borders mean, horrible and abusive. I'm sorry that there are governments that are not as good as ours, I'm sorry that there are people living in third world contries, but they still need to come to this country legally.
Do you know what would happen if we just opened our doors to illegal immigrants and just let them walk right through?? Crime would shoot up. Trust me. It's these stupid politicians, like Nancy Pelosi who does not have the brains that God gave her that thinks that we should just open our doors and let everyone come in. That's not how it should be. Like I said, if you are an immigrant, come here legally, educate yourself and learn our language, live by our laws and everyone will be happy.

I'm sorry, but even though I thought this movie was good, I could care less about about immigrants who got hauled off by the cops. They should have been here legally, then that would not have happened.

Anyway, if the *beep* USCIS moved their asses faster, people would be able to get their visas in reasonable time. I've applied for my Green Card 4 years ago, I'm still waiting for it, and it will be at least 2 more years until I get it. I have many coworkers from India who have been waiting for their Green Cards for more than 10 years. In the meantime, they are often stuck with the same employer, and don't make any big purchases (such as a house) for fear they would have to leave the US if they are laid off.

All this because our piece of *beep* government hires loads of people to pat us down at airports, instead of hiring them to solve visa petitions.

Let me tell you about a film that TRULY promoted illegal immigration, it's called "How The West Was Stolen" ehm sorry I meant "won".
Or do you think all those settlers ASKED for permission to the TRUE owners of the lands they were taking? I am talking about the native-americans and even mexicans in places like Texas, New Mexico and California.

EVERY US citizen (Unless they are navajos, cherokees, sioux, etc.) went to the USA for the SAME reasons that latin-americans are moving to USA nowadays. The ancestors of all those anti-immigrants who are preaching hate towards latinos in general and mexicans in particular arrived to USA running away from starvation, extreme poverty or/and war. Most of them were illiterate peasants. Lots of them couldn't even speak a word in english. They were treated like $hit by those who arrived first, and now YOU are doing the same with the new ones despite the fact that they are doing exactly the same your grandparents did. (Doing the hardest and worst paid jobs that NOBODY else want to do but that somebody HAS to do).

Some immigrants are wicked people, that's true. But then some of the irish, polish, jews, italians, english, welsh, germans, swedish, scottish, greeks, hungarians, etc immigrants were bad people as well. However 99% of them are honest and hard workers just as the grandparents of the current anti-immigrant and racist wackos.

IMO these people are just a bunch of hypocrites. People who are hiding their true colors (racism) behind a mask of "legality". I pity them.

Les_Luthiers. First, we won the west, thanks for stating that. Second, yes we came here for the same reason and all/most came in legally, through ellis island or such. These people are crossing the border, illegally and not getting a US citizenship. Do you understand that?

This isn't the 1800's anymore. I believe land was meant to for everyone, it truly was what God intended it to be but guess what, it isn't. Wake up and realize it's 2010, there are over 6 billion people on this planet. There has to be laws, government, and people can't just roam around countries.

Come to USA, become a citizenship, we will accept you no matter who you are but don't come here illegally, cause their taking jobs away from United States citizens.

@bigpapikay

Well, here's a discussion with an answer.

I don't know where you live or what you do, but let's make a hypothetical situation here:

You just lost your job. You had worked there for many years. Though you lost your job, your bills continue to pile up. You look for a job, but find that there are no openings. What would you say if the jobs you wanted were being taken by people that came into the country illegally and are not paying taxes like you are?

Is that fair?

US was founded under illegal immigrants.

"US was founded under illegal immigrants."

No... the US was founded by settlers coming to nearly uninhabited lands that were all either unowned or had litterally zero border controls (though even giving Native tribes "borders" is enough of a stretch as it is.

Everything about your post is very fair. I even agree that hey "illegal immigration," is exactly that...illegal. However, I don't think the point of the movie is to glorify illegal immigration or decriminalize it. It's merely a story about the love between a mother and son, and the lengths PEOPLE would travel for that love. In this case, immigration or better yet illegal immigration, is just a symbol for that journey for a love that is missing. Also, you say you are not here to be hateful, however look at your last sentence. Just because people cross for a better life, doesn't mean they participate in crime. Lastly, unless your a Native American, somewhere down the line your descendants were immigrants also. I am pretty sure that their reasons for coming to this country were very similar to the reasons people have today.

reply

I disagree. This movie depicts the life of illegal immigrants, that's it. Are you suggesting that to avoid "promoting illegal immigration" these characters should be portrayed as evil criminals instead?

reply

So many of us have been illegal -- no one was much bothered by all of the Europeans who evaded immigration. People are only upset because the ones who are illegal now are Mexicans.

Check back into any family that has several generations here, and you will find that many people in the family didn't get papers for 20 - 30 years later.

reply

Yes, it all seems more like a racist thing. They are so focused on "mexican" immigrants when they totally ignore the issue of european immigrants.

That's not to say that people should be actually entering the USA illegally. There's also the issue that immigration laws favor skilled people, but USA at least, has a much higher need for unskilled workers to perform low-end jobs.

And finally, for a child who is looking for her mom, of course immigration laws are going to seem unfair and migration patrols are going to feel like mean and evil. It's not like the guys are going to tell the kid: "oh poor thing, we'll help you reunite with her".

What Whites particularly White supremacists(KKK, Neo-Nazis, and Nazi Skinheads) don't realize about illegal immigrants that are either from Mexico or other countries in Latin America, is that it's basically their own people in those countries that cause illegal immigration into the U.S.A. In Mexico or the other countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, etc., the people of either Spanish, non-Spanish European, and/or American descent are the people that control politics, the economy, and are the ruling "white" elite in the countries as well. And when it comes to the people that are either "mestizo"(mixed Spanish and Indian), full-blooded indians, and/or black that are from those countries, they feel deprived of opportunities by the whites and have no choice but to come to the U.S.A. illegally. And that is something that whites, particularly white racists in the U.S.A. don't realize. But when it comes to illegal immigrants from either Central and South America, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Haiti that enter Mexico illegally, that country's immigration officials are way worse than the immigration officials here in the U.S.A. And it also seems that illegal immigrants from Europe, Africa, and Asia aren't targeted by the I.N.S. but illegal immigrants from Mexico or other countries throughout Latin America are always targeted more. It's sad but true.
