Alabama?!

I don't often pick on the Sci-Fi Channel originals like this (though, to be fair, their studio didn't actually make this), but I can't not write out my favorite bits of nonsense..

1. The college professor says they are in Alabama, which it clearly is not. I have seen enough David A. Prior movies to recognize Alabama when I see it and this was definitely West. I want to say that the actor meant to say Arizona but screwed it up. Maybe they should have just left this scene out since it accomplished nothing and the actors (who, along with poor Bruce Boxleitner, were actually pretty good in their roles) are never mentioned again.

2. The scene when Kelly comes home late is subtly funny. Listen to Boxleitner's line when he says he clearly told her to be home by eleven. the word "eleven" is from a different take and the tone in which it was said is very different from the rest of the sentence.

3. Boxleitner hangs up his cell phone after the call from Rob and tosses it down. Then he tells Kelly he'll call her when he hears more about what is going on. But he doesn't pick up the cell phone and take it with him! Maybe he had another phone or maybe he would call from the station, but it still made me laugh.

4. Again, same scene. Boxleitner leaves wearing a red shirt and then is on the crime scene a few hours later in a brown shirt. Later dialogue suggests he didn't return home. Okay, maybe he hit the station and changed clothes, but I doubt if Jim Wynorski did that intentionally.

5. Gil Gerard calls up Boxleitner and tells him Kaya wants to see him. Boxleitner tells him to have her meet him at the hospital. When she arrives, he says, "What are you doing here?"

I could list more, but I would rather other people list funny things they noticed.

It is not the state of Alabama, but the Alabama Hills. This is the location of many many movies near Lone Pine, California and Mount Whitney. Gunga Din, the Hopalong Cassidy movies, Gene Autry westerns...the list is enormous. Beautiful area.

Thanks for the correction. Then I guess the dialogue just wasn't very clear enough and should have been handled differently. I saw at least one other comment that thought it was the state, so I don't feel too bad. :)

I think it was done on the SUPER CHEAP and maybe there was a one week delay at a REAL construction site. They moved in, called up a bunch of friends who happen to be has-been, B-list actors with VERY familiar faces to fool us into validity, shot a bunch of scenes three or four times over a few days, called it a wrap, then pieced it all together in a studio with cheesy computer graphics - with no way to re-shoot. They were SOOOO cheap, notice in the hospital scene where the deputy survives after the Bone Eater zapped his hand in the back of the truck - and the doctor "DESCRIBES" his hand injury - they don't show it on camera? They were too cheap to even get someone to do some quick makeup showing a bloody hand.

I still say you can do it cheap with a good script, good cinematography and a decent cast. This is just bad talent all around - great scenery though.

In another scene, the Sheriff's secretary puts on a turquoise necklace while sitting in a vehicle. It is a gift from her BF, he found it at the Site. Very next scene she is running from the Bone Eater without the necklace on.

I noticed this, too. It really stood out because it seemed to be setting things up for the necklace to offer some sort of protection from the Bone Eater. I expected the creature to see her then turn away or something. But I guess if the necklace had any mystical powers it was just the ability to vanish into thin air!
