Josie Ho

It seems no one has mentioned too much about Josie Ho. In real life she is the daughter of Stanley Ho, the most powerful casino tycoon in Macau leading a consortium which held gambling monopoly there from 1962 until 2001. Stanley Ho has also owned all the ferry and helicopter services between Hong Kong and Macau for a very long time. Following the handover of the city back to the Chinese from the Portuguese, 2 additional casino licenses were issued in 2002 to the highest bidders both of whom are from Las Vegas. One of the successful bidders was Stephen Wynn of Wynn Resorts. The other license went to Sheldon G. Adelson of Las Vegas Sands. Stanley Ho did not just roll over and play dead though, he also invested heavily in new casinos in the face of the strong competitions. The gambling annual turnover of Macau announced in 2006 ($6.95 billion) has finally surpassed that of Las Vegas ($6.69 billion), and looks like it will stay that way for some time to come. Josie Ho does not look entirely Chinese, because the family is of mixed blood origin. She made news headlines a couple of years ago, when she married a nobody working in one of her father's casinos.

It will not be too surprising to know Johnny To got some extra help when shooting The Exiled on location in Macau, by casting an actress like Josie Ho who has the biggest daddy of them all in town. Stanley most likely would have make a few phone calls ahead to make sure everything turns out as expected on set: filming can take place smoothly in any street and at any hours hassle free from the police or gangsters, apart from the local weather which even a man with pocketful of loose change cannot control, for Joise to enjoy a day/night out everytime she's working with the film crew.

Well, that's just my opinion. What's yours BTW?

that's an interesting evaluation of the casting choice for Josie. Nevertheless, I think she was great in it even though she didn't have much screentime. At least she has more character than the other actress Ellen Chan, who played the prostitute.
