This is Schindler's List.

The story's remarkable. The Schindler's List revisited. Everything is the same. A powermonger and terrible dictator, and a man willing to help the others, even beyond all hope. Another great, fact-based movie.

I actually met Edelstam. I had heard about his amazing courage on the first 9/11. But the man was even more impressive and more corageous than this film shows. During WW II he worked with the Norwegian resistance in Oslo, and helped jews, allied airmen and resistance fighters escape to free Sweden.

He was one of the most impressive men of the last century.

Well, I am glad people in other places can see some of what we had to live, in our country. The issue of exile has had terrible consequences for at least three of the generations involved. The film is realistic in an important percentage. Of course there are some things not quite true but they are not so important in the long run. Something we Chileans found strange was that army officers are shown as people with dark skin when that is not so. They were all white, many of them blonde. Also they were very careful to show gentlemanlike manners in public, and I am not so sure about one high rank officer killing another high rank officer in front of a foreign ambassador. That's fiction.

Raoul Wallenberg and his effort to save Jews in Budapest would have been an example in the mind of Edelstam, I am sure. They both showed great courage in a lethal situation.
