The worst uniforms ever

Well, the Germans didn't look that bad from a distance. I figure that those Eastern European countries have tons of German Uniforms from all those WW2 movies they made when they were all under communist rule. But the Americans and Brits!?!?!? What the hell? What in the hell were these guys wearing? Caps too big and of no manufacture that I recognize. They very REMOTELY resembled "yank" and "Brit" uniforms, but nearly everything was wrong. Helmets, Jackets, boots, gear, nothing was right. Couldn't these guys just mail order reproduction American Paratrooper uniforms and gear and British Airborne uniforms and gear from WW2 (they're all over the Internet). Instead they used some weird Bulgarian left over uniforms and 'fixed them up'. Ugh. Anyone who watches the History Channel would vomit right away at these 'high school production' "costumes"......

Other threads dealt with the plot, acting, logic gaps, etc. I just decided to throw my two cents in regarding the weird outfits everyone was wearing....

You are correct sir.

reply

yep. i did notice some accuracies in the american paratrooper uniforms, the patch, the gear, the way they have those little reinforced parts on their knees and elbows, but the colors were off and it looked like it was made of cheap cloth meant to make a spiderman halloween costume or something.

I also liked how apparently the only weapons used in the war were submachine guns, and alos a giant ass Panzer can be driven and fired by one man, with a stereotypical looking officer on top with binoculars. In the middle of a town.

reply

Yep, fortuntely they had an explanation at the end of the credits: this was a work of fiction, and any resemblance to any actual people living or dead (including their unforms and weapons) was entirely coincidental.

reply

So I guess that the movie western "Shane" can have polyester disco shirts and have all the cowboys carry AK47s because it's fiction right? ;) LOL! Pretty funny pun, yo. But to be serious, the filmmakers should try to get it right.

I'm watching right now, the US and British uniforms are bad. After D-day the paratroop uniforms, as featured in the film, were no longer worn. The US sniper armed with a German sniper rifle and the French resistance girl with a soviet PPSch-41 subgun was bad, also the resistance members were carring Soviet bolt action rifles. The brits were SAS not airborne (they were wearing the SAS crests on their berets), during WWII they wore both the beige and maroon beret, though "Digger" wears his french style pulled to the left. Plus the US soldiers with German Mauser bolt action rifles at the end.
Also at the end when they steal the general jeep by hot wiring it because they did have the keys, WWII jeeps did not use keys, just a switch to start.

The movies concept wasn't bad it just need a better script and higher production values.

Good spot about diggers badge. It should be noted that Digger was supposed to be a royal marine - they wore, and still do wear, a dark green beret. Not red - thats parachute regiment (and early SAS).

reply

Further to incorrect uniforms Digger's red beret belongs to the Military Police[still worn today] Paras wear a maroon beret. And no one in this "film" can act. BUT I blame the retard claiming to be a writer for all the illness this "film" has brought to the world.

I just caught parts of this the other day and I noticed some problems with the German uniforms as well. The first glaring error I saw with the SS uniforms was that they had a Luftwaffe breast eagle on them. Other than that I didn't get too good a look at what else was wrong, but even that was enough to ruin it for me. And like everyone else has stated, the American and British uniforms were quite atrocious.

reply

Atrocious, indeed. I thought Uwe Boll had to have had SOMETHING to do with this pile of drek. That may be the only saving grace that SS Doomtrooper has: it could have been MUCH worse.

On the other hand, I haven't laughed nearly as hard over a two-hour timespan as I have over SS Doomtrooper. That alone makes it a relatively worthwhile movie to watch, especially to anyone that has some interest in military history. The uniforms ALONE are well worth a few chapters in a book. (As is the Soviet tank, but this is not the thread for that.)

Furthermore, please peruse the following list to gain valuable tips on how to make your SS Doomtrooper experience far more enjoyable:

- Please do not watch SS Doomtrooper and assume everyone in World War II acted like this (i.e., stupid). That said, if you DO have interest in military history, sate it first by reading the proper things that actually interest you. Only professionals that enjoy watching The Hitler Chan...oh, excuse me, The History Channel, should attempt to view SS Doomtrooper as they'd get a hell of a lot more laughs out of it.

- The imbibement of gallons of your favorite alcoholic drink (if you're over 21) is sure to improve the experience considerably (but not illegal drugs, because kids, Jesus Christ, burn out your brain cells and you're guaranteed to grow up to be a writer for the Sci-Fi Channel).

- A love of alternative fiction will certainly give you the proper perspective to put SS Doomtrooper into (e.g., the magazine rack next to the toilet, which is pretty much as close to the stuff that goes into said toilet, like this movie).

- Know that God has a sense of humor, Robin Williams' platypus routine aside. SS Doomtrooper is now officially the "what the hell was God smoking when He planted the idea for THIS?"

I'd think of some more, but I'm tired just thinking about this movie. I'd probably watch it again, though, just so I can laugh so hard that my lungs will splinter into a million pieces.

The swastika on the armbands is totally different. It's real joke! There is no historical details in this movie.

reply

Talking of that Digger bloke...he was introduced as a Royal Marine yet he was wearing a red Royal Military Police beret and the capbadge was that of the Special Air Service!!

reply

Surprised nobody adressed the fatc that supposed German "Panzer" was in facta Russian made T-34 with some swastikas and iron crosses slapped on it.

WTW PRODUCTIONS INC.

reply

Well, you could argue that the nazis might have captured that russian tank and painted the swastikas on it so that they don't get blown to pieces by the next nazi tank coming along. It definitely was not unusual to loot enemy troops and capture tanks and stuff. Russians captured german tanks as well. Of course it's a little strange that the nazis actually drove all the way from Russia to France with that tank but still, it would be a possibility... in theory... ;-)

Aswell as having the worst shaped beret in history (I've seen week 1 Army recruits with better berets than that) pulled to the wrong side!

reply

There is one area where I would disagree. The British Sergeant (the one shot and blown up who makes a miraculous recovery) does have a uniform that clearly identifies him as a paratrooper. The only problems are that he is announced at the beginning as being a Commando!
