I disliked this movie then I hated it

A deeply troubled main character who can't get his *beep* together somehow gets ladies falling all over him, and while he's so messed up he manages to throw together beautiful romantic essays. He falls in love with a quirky girl who can see the beauty in him.

This never happens. This would never happen.

Jim Carrey has also never played the main character in this scenario ever.

This is Harris Goldberg's *beep* dream.

Your Point Is?

There's some things I don't do

Really? Is it so, Mr.'Know It All'?
This movie is beautiful and completely genuine, trust me.

LAAAAAME!!! Sorry, this was a poorly constructed and written film. Even by romcom standards it is poor. i didnt even finish watching it. cute girl though.

reply

You thought this was a rom-com?

And, by the way, not finishing a film doesn't some how validate your opinions. If anything, it removes any worth they may have had.

reply

True, knife, that poster's comment invalidated itself.

If the poster had finished the film, they would have realized that Perry's character came to grow on his own through his own experiences - kind of waking to life - and later, yeah sure, there was a romcom-type ending, but it fit in context.

I thought the movie was very good. As I said elsewhere, certainly not a romcom - if anything, a drama that had some funny lines and scenes.

Well put.

.........you mean this was a drama?........jesus, i mean....wow, i was laughing through pretty much all this movie. not even joking.

reply

you are completely wrong about it. i say you should go out more often or find yourself a girl and then start spreading your stupidity everywhere.

reply

Its *beep* unintelligent movie filled with stupid humour, unreal characters. Its movie about feelings and yet it fails to provoke any on the subject it is supposed to be about.

Depressed people are known to get all hot bitches out there.
This movie starts quite allright, but goes painfully unbelieveable around 20 minutes and just keeps getting worse. "Hi im hot bitch. I saw you at the party saying or doing nothing. Wanna hook up?". Only way I could make this flick believeable is that main character/writer was filthy rich, what he propably was. Oh the rich people and their problems.. lol

While I don't completely agree with the OP, I think he does have a point. The main line of the plot is rather cliched: a guy in trouble, of some kind, meets a woman a falls in love with her, and so he starts to reexamine his life. I can't remember how many times I have seen this premise in films and stories. On the other hand, I can't think of a better and more effective way to explore a protagonist's anguish and psychological development. So perhaps it is not a cliche, but an archetype. As for the women being somehow too attractive, you may take this as a cinematic convention of sorts. Besides, one woman's poison is another woman's meat. If it is dramatically convincing, if it works on the screen, then I have no complaints. And this one certainly worked for me.

You're right. The movie is very unrealistic in that regard. A hot girl like that wouldn't have anything to do with someone as sick and screwed up as him. Essentially the way she comes back to him at the end. Total fiction. But the message about DP is absolutely accurate.
