Just saw the movie and it was great!!

My theatre was completely sold out. I can't believe this movie will only make about 10 million. It's a pretty good movie.

I agree. I went to the theatre just to support a black movie, and I was pleasantly surprised. This movie is really REALLY good. I went in expecting to see a Tyler Perry like flick and it is nothing like that. Now that I’ve seen the movie, I now know that the trailer does it no justice. A definite must see. You won’t feel like you’ve wasted your money.

I agree and I am also glad to support a movie exec produced by Morris Chestnut. In one scene, his wife, Clarice, said he had a spare tire but when he took off his shirt - my, my, my. In an Essence magazine interview, Morris stated that he particulary wanted Bill Duke to direct & Taraji to co-star with him & he also wanted Jennifer Lewis - she was fab-u-lous as usual. (Off topic but Will Smith & Eddie M. - please take note of what can be done. Crossover appeal does not have to translate into "just me". Shonda Rhimes too - what has happened to Grey's ?)

Meanwhile the previews for "Madea Goes to Jail" had my theater rolling - that darn Madea is crazy. Why is it that I only like Tyler as Madea ? When he's not in drag, he just isn't funny and actually doesn't seem comfortable. He keeps folks working though.

meanwhile my first love was standing first in line...Goapele

Only 5.6 million dollars. Pssh. Terrible. No justice at all.

Madea seems funny! Can't wait for it. I'm convinced that Tyler Perry is gay and is more comfortable in drag. That's just my theory though.

sade_toofly this movie is a DRAMA not a comedy do not compare this movie to Tyler Perry. This movie ONLY cost $5 million to make and it was only in 725 theatres. The per theatre gross was actually pretty good. This movie is actually doing very well. You have to pay attention to the production budget and the number of theatres to see if a movie is making money or not. Since this movie ALREADY made it's budget back in the first weekend it is doing very well.

venusebony, you tollay misunderstood me. I'm the one who posted this thread, so get a clue.

I did not compare this to Madea. I was talking about the madea previews seemed funny. Also, when I said, "5.6 million dollars. Pssh Terrible. No justice at all" I was talking about that this great movie didn't get the justice it deserved.

To me Morris Chesnut was some stud puppy who just poses, but he was terrific in this film. And similarly for the blondy Mauve Quinlen. I am sorta familar with her face but as a showhorse type thing, not an actress. Evidently her train just came IN. She got this role with some heft and hit it out of the park.
The level of acting was high and Bill Duke directing had it all flow with a sure Hollywood (best sense) touch.

Loved Mauve in The N-'s "South of Nowhere"

My theater had like between 10-15 people in it. I live in a small town though. It was really good. I give it a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked it!

R.I.P. River Phoenix
Chris Marquette & Amber Tamblyn are the only Edward Cullen & Bella Swan to me
I worship the goddesses Brandi Ryan & Amber Tamblyn!
My #1 fave actor is an even tie between the amazing, hot, and fabulous Chris Marquette & Jared Leto.

I have to disagree. That movie was straight up, certified BS. Many times on TV, films and even in real life, black men are told to "Man up" and be responsible for your actions and take care of the kids. In this film Morris Chestnut's wife and MIL give him hell for being a coach of a Little League baseball team. Coaching a Little League team makes a wife go berserk on her husband??

If a man is catching hell from both his and his MIL for doing the RIGHT thing, then that man needs to go somewhere, where he's appreciated.

And the ending was way too stupid, because if it was real life, Morris would've ended with the white woman, not because she's white, but because she appreciated his company, his contributions to the household, etc.

Taraji P. Henson's character would've ended up just like her mama in the movie, because she waited TOO damn late to do the right thing...and Morris would've ended up with the blonde woman at the end of the film.
