What's the Name of the Game...

This is my favorite soundtrack ever released, despite the lacking vocals in half the cast. I keep it looping much of the time.

But I wonder - for anyone who knows - where did "Name of the Game" fit into the story before it got cut from the movie? I haven't seen the play yet, but it's still on the movie OST.

It was in the scene where Sophie runs after Bill, and sings the song, before they jump to Are you my father?, after the cut. It should have been in the movie, it was lovely.

It was a lighthearted movie. We saw it three times at two theaters when it was released. The first time the song was in it. The next two times, at other theater, it wasn't.
