Driver 5 - what do you want?

No doubt when the Playstation 3 comes out another Driver game will come along, and probably another Grand Theft Auto lol. So, for the next Driver, any ideas? Do you think there should be another adventure with TK or Tanner? What city(s) do you wanna see? What time do you want the story set (70s 80s 90s whatever)? Please post your ideas here, I've loved these games since the originals, cant wait for the next.

Personnaly I'd like to see a Driver game in the 80s - cars, music and all. That means it would have to be with Tanner - since TK was in jail 1978 - 2006 lol. Maybe then a 'futuristic' one with TK set 10 years or so from now lol...any more ideas?

reply

Maybe set in the 90s that would be awsome with the tunes and styles

reply

I think that one in the 1960s would rock, with big high fins and all.

"Hey Earl. I wanna catch that pretty red dot on your back..."

reply

Tanner is dead, if they want to make a new driver, it wil either be with tk, or someone elseā€¦

reply

No, Jericho has to die, Tanner has to return!!

'Being undercover is only dangerous when you try to get out'-Tanner

reply

I want it set in 80's las vegas or current mexico city...

reply

A women as the main character. Better handling, better abilities on foot and everything in parallel lines.

Start off with a stunt driver working in hollywood. missions pushes her to go to different cities and different countries.

Maybe in your next life, you'll believe the Zodiac when it tells you to cut the red wire.

reply

I'll agree with you about the woman character part. In my opinion, if they decide to make Driver 5 with a woman character, they should choose Lola Glaudini ( TV's Criminal Minds ) for the main character's voicework. She'll give the character that cool, in your face, what you see is what you get attitude. As for the location, it should be set in 2 cities and 2 timelines : Detroit 1979 ( drug smuggling missions across the border as side-missions ) and Las Vegas 1987.

The first cutscene starts in a federal penitentiary. A Dateline type journalist enters the prison and asks for a Valerie Greenwood. The guard lets the reporter in and takes him or her to an interrogation room. A few minutes later, a woman in her forties with brown hair enters the room. The reporter asks for the story behind her crimes. Asking for a cigarette, she starts telling the reporter her side of the story.

The story starts in 1979 Detroit. Valerie Greenwood's ( main character ) father, also a getaway driver, announces his retirement to his crew. Valerie, knowing of her father's now former job and now trying to fill his shoes, sees this as a perfect opportunity to make a name for herself. She finds a few small jobs here and there until she gets noticed by her father's former crew, upon which they hire her. Unfortunately, her father disapproves of this, because the reason he became a getaway driver was so he could provide a brighter future for Valerie. As he confronts her, he threatens to rat out Valerie and her new crew. Valerie pulls out her gun and shoots her father in the head ( or anywhere else ). After dumping her father's body in the river, she helps her crew pull a major vehicule theft ring, sell the cars, takes her cut of the profits and heads for Las Vegas.

8 years later, Valerie and her crew reunite for the biggest heist ever : they will hit 3 ( or 4 ) casinos in Vegas. Things start going until an undercover cop gets hold of their plan. After hitting the last casino, Valerie and her crew are arrested.

The return of the "Director" feature. I loved that about the driver series. It's the only thing that lets Driver 4 down.

reply

Create a player mode!
Or at least play as an undercover cop again. (but let Tanner rest in peace)
Definitely bring back Director mode.

If you give a little love, it'll all come back to you.

reply

Why do so any say Tanner is dead with such certainty? We are never shown who dies, the makers left it open for dramatic effect, and in case they ever decide to use him again.

On topic, I think maybe the next game should have Tanner and TK teaming up agaisnt some underworld crime lord.

hey Eddie... *beep* you Eddie! Suck my d!ck!! - Eddie Murphy, Raw

reply

yah there better be director mode, I mean its a next gen system, that better clear out all the replay glitches.

reply

I like the concept of one part being set in the Past and another being set Modern day, I think they should do that again. For example, say you play a character who has just finished a TOD in Vietnam in 1967 and you return home to Los Angeles (just as an example), you do half the game there and then you play his son/daughter in 2007, still in LA (Or whatever year the game is set in)

That was obviously only an example, but I just like the two time periods, one city idea. It's like having a game and it's add on pack in one!

"Sandpaper, a real man's toilet tissue!"

reply

Tanner has to return.
It left a lot of questions in Driv3r.
They need to tie up loose ends, even if they killed him off.

reply

I've only just got my hands on a copy of D4, so I haven't completed it yet. However, I'm assuming TK exacts his revenge and walks away into the sunset. So I think that (depending on Tanner's fate, which I've heard has already been decided by Reflections) the next Driver should be one of the following ideas:

The first idea is that Tanner lived and he is sent after TK following the criminal wheelmans massacre in New York. Why would I want this game? Because it'd be a helluva challenge. TK (even though he didn't get to showcase his driving skills to the world like he wanted) versus Tanner (the undercover cop who rocks behind the wheel). Wheelman vs. wheelman.

The second idea is that Tanner presumably died. The opening of this game would see Jericho sitting in prison watching TV, a report on TK's antics in New York. A smile spreads across his face and he says "perfect candidate" or something. The game begins and its all about Jericho rebuilding a criminal empire outside the prison walls through TK. After a few missions (maybe even a few cities across the globe) TK and Jericho begin planning a prison break. You bust Jericho out of prison, and go through a couple of cities playing alternatively as TK and Jericho. Then, at the end, the police raid a warehouse or something that TK and Jericho are in. A mass gun battle ensues, think the climax fight of Bad Boys (the movie), and TK and Jericho both escape. In the ending cutscene, a man clad in SWAT gear comes out the warehouse and approaches his boss, announcing that the "targets" escaped. The face mask is removed to reveal the one and only Tanner, who says something like "but don't worry, I'll get 'em". The credits roll with some kickass rock song, and Reflections have just set off on the road to Driver 5 - Tanner vs. TK and Jericho.

Anyway, thats just my idea lol

reply

It should be an updated version of Driver:Vegas.

Just like the mobile version, Tanner is awakened by the jumpstart. Jericho is alive and travels to Las Vegas thinking Tanner is dead. Tanner goes to Las Vegas to exact revenge upon Jericho.

The Joker's Wild 08

reply

Driver WAS the original driving game, but the creators f-cked up with Driver 2, by only releasing it as a childrenā€™s video game, it was only available for Playstation, which is a childā€™s system.

The creators of Grand Theft Auto were smart at first, by releasing it for PC; but lately they're screwing around as well, the last two games have only been available for Playstaion; and the newest one is not available for PC yet either.

It's time for the creators of video games to get smart and concentrate on PC gaming, to hell with these childlike game systems: Playstation and Xbox.

reply

you dont get it "mr z moonchild"

PC's main function is not gaming - its general computing (internet, email, word processing, work stuff)

video game systems are meant for video games - you got some viscious chip on your shoulder about gaming systems and have nothing to back up your comments.

again - video gaming systems are widely being used by people of all ages - just because you cant figure out what button does what, doesnt mean you take it out on message boards where nobody can REALLY get in your face about it.

reply

Large companies such as Sony get exclusive rights to games so that they can released on there system first, and sometimes their system only; halting itā€™s release on PC.
Examples:
Driver 2
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
and others
Also, the makers of these video games, such as Rockstar, are also to blame for allowing this.

These large companies are continuing with the idea that video games should only be played on their processing systems, which are slowly upgraded through a series of pacing, so that eventually youā€™ll need to purchase THEIR system again in order to play the newer games, that way they continue to profit off of the same people.

Their systems have inferior processors than PCā€™s, they also have inferior Video Cards and Audio Cards.
Their systems are also designed to make it harder for game modification; which is one of the most popular aspects of PC gaming.

Theses game systems are simplistic in design, meaning theyā€™re designed for children; anyone can operate them, the makers of the game systems are implying that the average player is lacking intelligence, which they are not.

The pricing for these game systems has become outrageous, getting comparable to the range of the average PC.

With Playstation and other game systems, loading up of the game takes too long. PC does not.

Anything that can be done with a video game on a game system can be done on a computer, plus more.

Yes, I do not like that fact that Bill Gates is also taking away from PC gaming with his Xbox.

ok - time to pick apart your post.....i love this.

- well, for starters. its not written in stone anywhere that any game released, by sony or otherwise, is required to be available on all systems, including pc. remember that sony/microsoft/nintendo are all in competition with eachother, leaving you the only person thinking its unfair.

2) "These large companies are continuing with the idea that video games should only be played on their processing systems, which are slowly upgraded through a series of pacing, so that eventually youā€™ll need to purchase THEIR system again in order to play the newer games, that way they continue to profit off of the same people."

- last time i checked, pc's hardware/software becomes out of date within 3 months or so. with videogame systems (a product made simply for videogames), there hasnt been a need to upgrade them as frequently. see, VG system owners dont feel a sense of inadequacy when their system is inferior to the next guys, unlike pc owners who upgrade like it gonna save someone's life. (or at least their reputation on World of Warcraft) this is why sales of vg systems go through the roof, while the PC fanboys laugh as we spend $200-600 every few years on a new system. funny thing about that is that pc fanboys spend that much every few years to keep up with the upgrades required for their mega PC's.

3) "Their systems have inferior processors than PCā€™s, they also have inferior Video Cards and Audio Cards.

- your first point - i'll agree, your second point - i'll agree. easy game mod? well, i bought a Pro Action Replay and all i do is move the cursor to what i want, click (or push button). easy-peasy. any BTW - regarding game modding being popular by PC owners. It seems like PC owners get lost in the modding aspect and forget why people spend months to years making the games. TO PLAY!!!

4) "Theses game systems are simplistic in design, meaning theyā€™re designed for children; anyone can operate them, the makers of the game systems are implying that the average player is lacking intelligence, which they are not."

- that is the dumbest comment i've heard. a hammer and nail have a simplistec design, but you still cant find them in Toys R Us, well, maybe a Playschool version. Does this mean that PC's are difficult in design? i dont remember reading the lengthy manual for finding the power button on my computer. There are some cars on the road with simplistic design, but yet again, no kids driving them. This website has a simplistic design, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE??? i dont really know what you were getting at with that "point". Do you want a PS2 with wings and a gyroscope somewhere? if you reply to my post at all, this is really the only thing i cant figure out - how difficult do you want it to be to turn on the game system?

5) "The pricing for these game systems has become outrageous, getting comparable to the range of the average PC"

- the average cost of a basic pc with everything you need (monitor, pc, mouse/all that stuff) is roughly $700 Canadian. most of the software is on shareware trial - which means you can only enjoy the stuff on it currently for a month before spening at least $19.99 each to get the full thing. once you have all that software on that computer, it slows down due to memory usage. once it slows down, you upgrade the memory, once you upgrade the memory, you upgrade the motherboard, once that is done, you upgrade the video card......etc, etc. so after all that, just to play certain games that are rather demanding on the graphics side of things, you've spent over $1000. now lets take the very expensive PS3 for comparison. brand new, it costs about $650-699. this includes a system that plays games that gives some PC only games a run for their money in terms of visuals. you also get a 60 gig hd. you also get a cd player, mp3 player, blue-freakin-ray player, which on its own runs you close to $1000. oh - and upgrades aren't neccesary. so for that one my frie....IMDB acquaintance, again - you are wrong.....and very bitter towards game systems for some reason.

6) "With Playstation and other game systems, loading up of the game takes too long. PC does not."

- while this may be true in some cases, its often PC games that slow down for loading - if you haven't forked out the extra $$$ to upgrade your PC to make all your games playable. PC games these days require the mother of all videocards to play them with the graphics running smooth. i would rather wait the extra 15-20 seconds for it to load on my PS2 than spend more money to make it enjoyable and play without skipping/freezing/VIRUS!!!

7) "Anything that can be done with a video game on a game system can be done on a computer, plus more"

Thats why they dont call computers "video game systems......that also do word processing". and yeah, so computers are good for the ever-loved hackers who take something that took months to years to make, and then mess around with it.

Wow, should I feel special or what.
I am officially be stalked by minimarkable1234.

He, she, or it has been checking my other posts:
http://imdb.com/user/ur2955622/boards/profile

Bravo, my boy, I am glad to know that I am preoccupying your life.
By the way, do you have any kind of life?

You know what's really funny, is that I had forgot that I had posted this until minimarkable1234 responded to my of my other posts.

reply

dont get on your high-horse just yet my fellow poster. someone checking to see if there have been replies doesnt really count as stalking. if you want to feel special, then go ahead and call it that.

Basically, i, like you, felt that i had an important point to get across, i was interested on seeing what you had to say in response. since i noticed that that post went a while without delay, i thought i would see if you were posting similar garbage elsewhere, which you were. so i merely went to the same topic you were currently posting in, noticed that you were still going on about your pc vs gaming systems. just incase you didnt get the first message, i wanted to post it again.

since you are only concentrating on the fact that someone looked to see what else you were posting, just to see if you were a troll or not, which is a function that imdb has given us, i am left to assume that you have no response to what i have posted.

relax, hug your keyboard and assure it that things will be ok.

In Driver 5 i wud like to see the game set in a even more photo realistic New York with all the subberbs,i think there should be a new main character.I would like it to be in the 80s just after T.K.was jailed something like that.
I would like real car licences, all types of transport(boats, planes e.t.c.) and more interaction with the environment. The story should be focused on Driving and lightly on foot, about 75% driving and 25% on foot. I think in the free roaming stuff you should be a bit more free in what you want to do, as in customise character like GTA but better,be able to enter all the New York landmarks and famous buildings and be able to buy any property you want, have a full vehicle modification layout and better damage resistance on cars and swim.
I think the story should have the main character chasing down a gang that has taken his family hostage but in the mean time has the police on his back for killing one of the Triads himself and finds out the kidnapper of his family is Tanner who has been sneakily committing crimes when his job is to stop them. Then the main character tells the police that one of there own has taken his family hostage then the police and the main character both work together to find Tanner and the gang and kill them.

I think that there should be a new main character in driver 5. I also think that there should be a bigger selection of weapons *i.e. baseball bats and other non gun weapons* also one question about driver 4. WHERE DID THE SWIMMING GO? and boats. we need boats. also it should be set in somewhere like Detroit, Michigan or London or Manchester, England but set in the 1990's. also they should allow you to create your own guy with a list of names built into the game so you pick a name from the list and that name is in every cut scene you're a part of.

Here's my idea for the storyline (it's just a rough main outline so don't have a go at me if you think it's too short.)
- A guy (let's call him John Smith) moves to (Let's say Detroit i mean "The Motor City" is perfect for Driver)
- "John" gets hijacked by a random jewel thief during a robbery but hijacks someone else to get his car back.
- Main Bad Guy (Let's for now call him Lucas) sees this and chases them and offers him a spot on a heist after "John" gets his car park and escapes the cops.
- "Lucas" betrays "John" during the heist but "John" manages to escape the police and chases "Lucas" back to a warehouse.
- They have a gun fight which leads to a car chase which then leads to "Lucas" escaping on helicopter.
- "John" chases him to "8 Mile Road" where a you kill him

i think something along those lines (remember, that is only an outline.)

*STORY* My Idea.

Istanbul, 2004.

(Similar to Driv3r) You see Tanner getting rushed into hospital followed by Jericho. Tanner flatlines, and the surgeons try to ressurrect him. The screen slowley grows dark as they keep trying to ressurrect him over and over again.
The screen grows light again, and it shows dead enemies being carried away in body bags etc. Tobais Jones is sitting at the back of an ambulance being treated for cuts, bruises etc. by doctors. Vauban walks up to Jones and tells him that Jericho was found Dead On Arrival by doctors. Jones asks about Tanner. Vauban pauses for a few seconds then mentions he has word that Tanner did not make it, then the screen goes black.

Los Angeles, 2008.

When the screen goes light again, it over looks LA, and zooms slowley through some streets, then looks at a perticular caffee. While looking at the caffee, it says on the screen '4 Years Later'. You then see inside the caffee. You see a part of a black man's face, his nose and his mouth, sipping coffee. Then a man walk in wearing a ski maska armed with a handgun, and hold up the store. The guy robs people's wallets etc. The guy who is robbing people's wallets walks up to the black guy and points the gun at his head and reaches into his coat pocket. He pulls out a cop badge, and says to himself 'LAPD ?', then the black guy throws coffee into the guy's face, gets up and nails him with his fist, knocking him on the floor dazed. Soon enough, cops arrive, and the black guy walks outside. One of the cops say to the black guy, "Just another day in the life of Detective Tobias Jones, huh ?", the black guy turns around, the screen shows his face and then the black guy (identified now as Jones) replies "Ain't it a bitch ?". The screen then changes and shows the title DriVer, with a big V in Driver (representing V means 5). *>>>This is where the game begins<<<*.
