PFFFTTT...........Rem ake

Jean-Pierre Melville made this picture back in 1966 with Lino Ventura as Gu. This is total BS.
They are remaking "The Red Circle" that starred Alain Delon and Yves Montand which Melville also wrote & directed.

We can not let this stuff happen. When there is no respect for Jean-Pierre Melville, it is a sad day.

It is seldom the case that remakes of good memorable movies succeed. Like elective plastic surgery for middle –aged has–beens sometimes things go dreadfully wrong. In the few cases of remake equal or better than the originals, off hand I can think of the TV movie version of “Jamaica Inn” in 1985 where the 1930s original classic was terrible but the remake was fantastic. Also “Perfect Murder” which was a remake of “Dial M for Murder” and leaps and bounds better than the original..The remake of Cape Fear with Robert de Niro was as good as the original and included cameo roles for the two aging original stars as did the successful TV movie remake of “Moby Dick”.These are laudable exceptions. Most remakes are dismal as , for example, in the case of “The Big Sleep” , “The Lady Killers” and “Last Holiday”.

I received two good technical quality DVDs containing some of the most awful films I’ve seen in over fifty years of watching movies. They came with an Athenian Sunday newspaper I buy. Namely The 2008 version of “The Second Wind” and the 2008 Morgan Freeman-John Cusak movie “Contract”. At least they didn’t cost me anything and I may keep the black plastic “library” jackets (total value 5 euro cents) for some worthy future CD downloads!. Also the paper promised that the next free movies will include the “The Piano”, a good, if slightly overrated, work of art. So altogether I am not totally disappointed. After all, there are more important things in life to get agitated with.
