Twilight Zone the movie and Case 39

Has anyone seen the movie of it?
Specifically the one with the kind woman and the boy with the family in that big house?

Do you remember when Emily was hiding under the bed, and she asked lili "what do you want", and what did lili reply? "i want you to love me". This was an immensely important moment in the path that Lilis life couldve taken i feel.

I mean its so similar to that. The huge difference is that Emily did NOT try and help/love Lili, she killed her, where as in the twilight movie, the kind woman in that AGREED to love him and show how he could use his powers for good not evil.

The other difference being lili had caused numerous deaths though.

The whole time I was watching this movie I was thinking about The Twilight Zone movie and the old episode from the tv show. Both were about children who had mind control over others. It also kind of reminded me of The Bad Seed with the angelic looking lead girl who is really evil and kills to get her own way.

That's a really good angle, and might have been another direction they could have gone. However, unless it turned out to be a failure in the end, it wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining, I think.

CanadianMaximus20 "Maybe for another movie."

- Case 40?

It was just that one bit under the bed that got me,
Zellweger: (crying) "What do you want?"
Lilith: (calm) "I want you to love me"

At the end of it all Zellweger was a child social worker professional so, you know.

I was thinking the same thing. In fact, when she goes to see that lady to ask her to find another family for Lily, when the lady says "you petitioned for custody, you got it!" and when Emily asks how she "makes it work" when the lady said something along the lines of "the same coping and parenting skills you teach every day." I thought, at that point, that it was going to take a twilight zone turn and she was going to try to love the child and perhaps turn the tables on the child with the threat to not love her and the threat to leave her.

However, that would have been predictable to me, so I am not sure how I would have enjoyed it. I know they could have made a better ending with that than either the regular or alternate ending. I also think they could have had a much better ending with the happy ending. Personally, it did freak me out when she was able to knock down the door like that with so much power, and then on the floor she was like "what are you doing under there you silly pumpkin head? You don't want me to have to come under there and get you do you?" And she starts counting and then she cocks her head and limbs in that freakish way. Scared me (ok, i was a tad stoned when i watched this, ill admit).

Anyway, I didn't like her looking rather big and demonic/monsterish at the end under the water. The first 4/5 of the movie were scary, to me, because it was more of a psychological thriller, leaving a lot of it to our imaginations. When they crossed the line to show what she really looked like, it came off bad. They should have just left us wondering what she really was if this was the only idea they had.

Also, the Lily/Demon actually looked scared when Emily didn't budge despite the visions that were being put into her head, and when Emily said she wasn't scared and started going faster. How much power did the Lily/Demon have? It looked like it had quite a bit if she could actually do the damage she did to that door. It didn't go back to normal. It was actual physical damage, and not just an illusion like a lot of her other tricks. I am not sure how difficult it is for her to change into that form, or if thats just her real natural form. If its her real natural form, then I'm a bit surprised she didn't turn into sooner in the car when they were struggling for control. I don't know.

Over all, the movie kept me interested.

I *beep* myself when Lily was counting to 3 with Emily hiding under the bed. I agree with what you say about them showing us lily in her demon form, it did take us off coarse a bit. I think she turned into demon form when she was genuinely angry. We saw her flicker between human and demon form when lily said "Dont yell at me" to Emily. And barging the door open she seemed pretty angry. But im not 100% sure.

I do know that Eddie said to Emily on how to kill lily, "and i'll tell you what i did different. Count yourself dead at the outset. Accept that going in. Use it to your advantage. If you're not afraid she can't hurt you."
Hence why no demon lily at the start when eddie and his wife tried to throw lili in the oven, and perhaps why no demon lily in the car at the end.

But there were many unanswered things about lily's power, aswell as Emilys morals, which i kinda liked about case 39 because it lets me make stuff up :)

Yeah this is the line of thinking I had. Her power came from fear. If they had no fear she was weak.

Yeh, the screenwriter without a doubt stole the idea from The Twilight Zone. I know that every plot has been done a million times, but this one was obvious. Another obvious rip was Disturbia. Not that you still can't enjoy these movies; I'm just saying nothing is new under the sun.

well its 2 years later, and I am watching this movie, and the very first
thing I thought of after she did her very first meeting with the
parents, and the father didn't speak. I instantly thought of
the twilight episode and came on this board to look for a thread
just like this, and here it is lol.
totally agree that the writer of the movie was thinking of that
episode along with the twilight zone movie...

You mean the "It's a Good Life" segment that was based on a classic Twilight Episode starring Billy Mumy, which itself was based on a short story of the same name, and which had a sequel in 2003, also starring Billy Mumy? The episode that made the concept of wishing something into the cornfield part of pop culture, like "pod people" and "parental units"?

Nah, I don't think anyone has ever seen that... 

I think the twilight zone episode you're thinking of is "Its a Good Life". Great episode highly recommended. Its about this little boy who has mind powers and rules a small town with an iron fist. If his parents had the courage of the parents in 'Case 39' it would have been a different story.

If they didn't think happy thoughts the little boy would wish them into the cornfield.
