AROUND 75 MILLION PERISHED IN WWII

Over 70 million people, mostly civilians, have died in World War II. Russia was hit the hardest. Around 21 million of its people, about 7 million soldiers and 14 million civilians, have perished.

As of now, the indefinite death toll stands between 70 million and 75 million.
It was the most devastating and deadly event in all human history.

Why have there been none, if not, very few videogames about the American Civil War and World War I?

When gamers play this, they should also consider the tragic economic and human costs of every real, historical war.

Marketability. Same reason they don't make many WW1 or Civil war movies.

they dont make the games probably because the fighting was so much slower... the reloading of the guns and such... i was thinking about this same topic and that was the best conclusion i could come to... now if they would only make a civil war game where someone got into a time machine and gave both sides AK-47's and grenade launchers... that would make for a unique game... :)

You can its called Darkest of Days, you can buy it on steam for the PC or for the xbox but the xbox 360 version is crap, dont listen to the reviews it really is a great game. And there's multiple time periods you can go too.

and your point is please...??

I could see a WW1 game maybe, but not the American civil war.

They're going to make a first-person shooter called To End All Wars based during WW1.....and why do you ask about those? Because no-one would want to play them because they were slow-burning wars without much tanks or spartan lasers....

Good point actually. I can only think of one game based on the American Civil War (The History Channel one) and none come to mind about World War I.
As for why no games, I agree with the other posters. The Civil War was fought mainly with flintlocks. Ever fired a flintlock, then reloaded it? It takes awhile. True, repeating rifles were used during the Civil War, but they weren't in common use. Most soldiers had the single shot flintlock. Me personally, I wouldn't enjoy a Civil War game.
As for a World War I game, I think I could get into that.

Let me ask you this though. Do you feel this way about any war game, or just the plethora of World War II games, or just the Call of DUty series? All wars are destructive to both human life and pretty much everything around.
Me, I enjoy WWII games, but hey, WWII is a fascinating subject to me. I appreciate the sacrifice the soldiers, airmen, sailors, and Marines who fought made, as well as the sacrifices made by civilians (rubber and metal rationing). I try to learn all I can. I'm even planning a trip to the WWII museum in New Orleans. My way of thinking is that by playing these games, I can at least partly experience what the service men on both sides experienced. (I doubt any game will come as close to the "chaos and hell of the battlefield" as my grandpa called it)

Close only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and thermo-nuclear weapons.

Yeah, I played the civil war game, it's like a world war II game but you have to reload after every shot

Honesty a WWI shooter wouldn't be much fun. I mean waiting in a trench for 2 hours until you hear "over the top!" and then charging into machine gun fire? Not my idea of fun.

Pretty much the only reason is because there are no where near as many weapons as in WW2 or Vietnam, Desert storm, etc. But I think a WW1 game would be fun, you could have the ANZAC campaign with missions at Gallipoli and in France but not really the british campaign at Gallipoli cause all they did there was send the Aussies and Kiwis to their deaths while they sat back and drank tea and thought they were awesome lol.
