Computer Generated?

Are any parts of this done with CGI?
what do you guys think

reply

i was thinking that too.
i think the only part in the opening when we see the world and the words "planet earth " come up. it may be computer generated but it looks *beep* aweseome :)

reply

In what way does this documentary come across as being 'computer generated'? I have seen it and I have no clue where you are getting this idea from.

The original poster made the same false accusations about Baraka.

reply

It loks like it is too perect to be possible

i dont think there was any cgi

reply

Could someone please translate that into English for me?

If you think I am a troll, report me.

reply

I guess all the shots from space are CGI. I don't think they've got a camera up there ... but I may be wrong.
They miss clouds also.

reply

You can actually see clouds very occassionally during the shots from 'space'.

But this is exactly the reason that I'm on here - I want to know how they did those shots too!

Especially because they look amazing, especially in HD, and to be honest, British TV shows have a poor track record with CGI.

They only quote one guy in the credits for doing anything that sounded remotely like it could be the CGI work, and I fail to believe that one guy could have done such an amazing job.

Then again I doubt the BBC has HD cameras in space. Hmm...

reply

You really think there has never been any cameras in space? The space shots obviously are from other sources than the BBC, like NASA for example.

There is zero CGI in this. Why would they do that?

reply

Pretty sure those shots were from the ISS. Seemed to be the right altitude (it has a very low orbit).

reply

The scenes of Earth from space are cgi, not just in this documentary, but in all videos by NASA. The reason is because NASA can't let you see that the Earth is flat, and also there is a dome in the sky that prevents NASA from going too far into space. Go to YouTube, there are thousands of videos now about this. NASA has been caught red handed faking many images from space.

Lol nice trolling.

reply

the algae in shallow seas was probably cg.

reply

Well maybe not CG but definetly Computer composoting and not in the sense of cleaning frames up, but the shot when the cherry blossom´s bloom or the mushroom´s grow

reply

those are called time lapse photography

reply

I think a few of the flower scenes were heavily altered via computer program. Not that I think they're fake exactly. They just look too perfect. I have never seen flowers that perfect and I live down the street from a forest.

reply

I think when you see seasons changing that could be CGI. But not much else.

When You Know Better, You'll Do Better.

leaves altering their colors in the first season... Looks quite CG to me.

Only that.

reply

Not convinced - have you seen "private life of plants"?

reply

I think all the space scenes were original
there are dozens of satellites orbiting the earth, Its not cheap, but you can order any footage from the companies running them.
google did the same thing with googlemaps.

reply

I was thinking the same thing. A lot of the "deep ocean" stuff looked way too perfect. How did they get the swarms of fish to pass right through the cameras?

reply

well they did spend 5 years filming...

reply

Two words, time lapses. That's really the only thing they used in the whole series, everything else was natural.

reply

I suspect there was a bit of digital grading and clean-up done in post-production to get the colours to really pop onscreen and add some mood to the cinematography but I don't think they would've actually added computer generated imagery to the show, it'd be a bit of a cheat and unethical.

reply

these people camped out for weeks and months. waiting for the perfect moments, its insane!

Yeah, I agree. Comparing the scenes of the swamps of the Okavango with other pictures and documentaries made in there, they're definitely more vivid than usual. But I don't think there's any CGI either.

Language! The thing that means stuff.

There is no CGI in Planet Earth

reply

You have to be blind to not see this, there is a lot cgi in this, backgrounds, snow, rain, vistas, even animals, and as such it is a travesty.

reply

On... none of the above, and you're simply wrong about a thing.

I'm sure there's plenty of digital clean-up, but there is no CGI

While one person continues offending, kmorrison1 and Which_Tyler are right:

These reports are *beep* lies, you are blind! This has cgi all the time, this has a lot of cgi , 100%. Of course it has many beautiful real shots, but also many fake shots, or post processing like fake snow etc.
