is this made for america?

i was just wondering if this was made for the american audience. my reason for asking is that in one episode Mr. Phillip has to design a new "soda" can for a company and when his boss comes round he is american as well.

reply

Haha you're obviously making that crap up, this is without a doubt the crapest show I've seen on TV. The acting is appalling, and the girl who plays Sophie could be trapped in a burning house with wolves about to tear her apart and she still wouldn't STOP SMILING because that's how appalling an actress she is.

reply

wow that sounds like the most jealous girl on this entire website, she's just angry cos blokes find the girls in the show attractive but as she's a girl she wouldnt understand why and so try to shoot the down by bad mouthing the show, its meant to be panto type acting! stupid red head b*tch! (not that i dont like a nice pretty readhead!)

reply

If the show is doing something right been sold around the world etc,why are there no comments from anywhere except the UK??

I'm 24 years old, live i Australia and record this show on my Foxtel IQ cause it's on when I'm at work. I find it charming, cheerful and endearing to watch something that doesn't involve using my brain (which I leave at work!) and doesn't involve people blowing each other up. :)

reply

Well Angus dont listen to all this nonsense in this thread, some people just don't get it, my kids are 7 and 8 and just love the show, and it's one of those things were i started watching because of them, and now i love. The show is quite clearly aimed at preteens and i can tell you they love it, keep up the good work, all of you guys

reply

I came across this whilst channel surfing & thought this was another show in the "S Club 7" mould, that is to say, British actors in a US based show. So I was surprised to see that it's actually British made.

reply

Australia? Get that crap out of my country.

That's it I'm going to the website to complain.

I am so pleased to have this mystery solved! The show looks so American, even the lighting and obviously the clap-board house. My kids love it and I'm quite fond of its goofiness. Interesting that the American in this trail doesn't seem to understand that it's tongue-in-cheek (well for grown-ups anyway!). I always assumed that the lighting look came from US shows being shot NTSC. I'd love to know how you achieved the look.

reply

Oh my god STOP MAKING THIS CRAP AND GET IT OFF OUR SCREENS. I AM BEGGING YOU ANGSUEKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Believe me, i don't want to be nasty but you are doing NOTHING right.

Thank you for your time,i hope you take my words and about 99.8 percent of other peoples views on this show into consideration.

alright mr. sharples, allow me:

first of all, i am an american. i may not always be proud of it, but until i move over there i am.

now, seconed of all i have NEVER watched dharma and greg and/or friends. there are things called BOOKS out there. the way i ended up on this thread is a long story, but i will say this:

about 10 years ago when i was small, there was a t.v show on about a family with a genie. they unrolled him out of a rug. however it wasn't that good and only lasted a season.

so if anything, YOU copied US.

reply

i never claimed that you copied us! i just responded to what someone wrote about this would only last one season in america and i sai1d that this doesnt tax the brain too much to watch so americans would love it (as a lot of their shows are pretty simple and not very clever or imaginative)

reply

Since somebody who is involved with the show seems to come on here can I ask a question:
Does it not worry you that the majority of the viewers seem to be middle aged men watching it purely to see the two "teenage" girls? And surely by having the blonde one wear such short skirts you are encouraging it?

reply

just thought i would say, this show plays in canada as well.

reply

I went onto the site for poops and giggles and there was a trailer for it. I don't want to give them the satisfaction, but it looked so *beep* I laughed. HARD.

Anyone can put up a bunch of green curtains in there house and dance around it. Alot of people. And half of those people could make it look good.

This is like the television equivalent to Big Rigs. If you don't know what Big Rigs is I strongly recommend you Wikipedia it. Short Summary: Possibly the worst video game ever.

Angus,

I don't doubt that the show gets good ratings, as my kids (8 and 5) both like it a lot. It is pretty safe, inoffensive stuff and is one of the few shows for the pre-teen market that doesn't revolve entirely around 'dating' and jealousy. I guess I regard the show as a modern-day equivalent of something like Rentaghost - a fairly wholesome kids' sitcom that is entertaining and isn't going to do anyone any harm.

Performance-wise, I think you guys do a decent job with some pretty ropey scripts. I agree with some other posters who suggest that the girls are a touch too smiley, and although character development is hardly going to be the primary aim of a kids' show, I feel that more could be done to differentiate between them - but let's face it, this is not Brecht.

I do feel it is obvious that the show has been made to look and feel American, which is more of a lament than a criticism. I keep expecting the girls to announce that they are making plans for their senior prom, or to say that they have just been to the mall. Doubtless you will correct me and say that the property used for the exterior shots is in fact in Bridlington or somewhere, but no-one could possibly say that it is representative of a typical British house, and I find that very sad. Is it not possible to sell a show like this overseas unless the house looks like it's in Malibu or Long Island?

My only real problem with the show is the casting of Jordan Metcalfe as Adil. I don't doubt that he is a decent actor, and a job is a job - but what the heck is going on here? When I was growing up, Michael Bates was hamming it up as an Indian in It Ain't Half Hot Mum and nobody seemed to bat an eyelid - but surely we've moved on a bit since then! If you're going to have a character who is a genie with a Middle-Eastern name and pantomime-style Middle-Eastern costume, why on earth get a caucasian actor to play the part and affect a daft 'foreign' accent? I guess that this might have been done to avoid being accused of racial stereotyping, but surely if that was the problem, it would have made more sense to turn the whole thing on its head and bring the genie character completely up to date. As it is, this casting really doesn't work at all.

I'm glad that you enjoy making the show and I'd be interested in your comments on the points I've made.

Cheers

Tim

Calm down? Not to be rude, but it seems it is you who really needs to calm down. You are way too defensive - you cannot expect a production to get no negative criticism at all. Perhaps the lesson here is to be more critical of yourself - take note of what people are saying and decide on improvements you can make to the series, if any. I know how difficult it is to hear negative criticism, but you have to expect it. The whole world isn't going to love your programme, no matter how much you love it.

As for your retort at the bottom, no-one indicated that it was easy. They were suggesting that it could be improved. Okay, they were less than courteous about it but that doesn't mean you have to adopt the same attitude.

And no, I don't like the show, but it does have potential. I'd rather watch reruns of I Dream Of Jeannie, because that was, in my opinion, a better production. I am interested to see how you respond now to my opinion, which I remind you I am very much entitled to.

The show had a good idea, but went about it completely the wrong way I think. It is actually quite depressing to think that this is played in the US, and people think that we act like that... There are sooo few kids shows on British television that are worth watching right now. I really don't get it, I mean in the US soooo much effort is put into their shows, but over here you get things like Genie in the House.
Here are the UK kids shows that I am liking atm:
-Spirit Warriors
-Sarah Jane Adventures
