Regarding a particular scene.

I was wondering, does anyone know how did Zhou Wei meet up with Yu Hong? I don't understand how it went from him writing an e-mail to her in his apartment to the next scene, he is entering, I suppose, a tollbooth, and then somehow Yu Hong gets in the car with him. Onwards, there were hardly any dialogue. I wish there was an explanation telling us how they met up again.

It just doesn't make sense.

Not only that, were the many sex scenes neccesary, really? I didn't think so.

Other than that, I thought the movie was rather unsatisfying, especially near the end.

canadianbanana eh? Where did you happen to see the movie, if I may ask.

*SPOILER WARNING*

Anyways, as far as I could tell, she relocated with her husband to a petrol station. I believe the final character blurb touched on this.

Obviously reaching her via that email address, he arranged to pick her up. I'm fairly certain they were at a hotel.

Life can be tragic and unsatisfying. It made perfect sense.

As for the sex scenes, common now. The director obviously felt they contributed something, and I've no complaints.

the way the film was edited made the two scenes seem as if they happened directly after one another.
however, it's implied that she responded to his email and made arrangements for him to pick her up.

and yes, it is an 'unsatisfying' movie, but that's what life is like more often than not. this is one of the few times i was actually hoping for a happy, 'hollywood ending'. after being so emotionally drained for the entire rest of the film.

I believe it is an "'unsatisfying' movie" in the sense that its main theme seems to be desire and the impossibility of total satisfaction.

Gah, exactly! I adore this film because it made me feel like the saddest, loneliest person in the world after viewing. Haha, perhaps not a common reason to love a film, but the fact that my emotions were so invested into these characters is more than enough reason to show my attachement to the movie.
