The most mismatched soundtrack EVER!

The movie is great in a truly unique visual, contemporary style. The soundtrack however makes this film unwatchable for another 2nd time. Not only the placing and choice of the pieces, the arrangements are to 80% just awful... a shame.

I get how you would have to either dislike or enjoy the soundtrack. She is rather unapologetic about her musical style but it's completely possible for someone to enjoy the soundtrack. Or even, like myself, think that it was the perfect choice to mirror the style of the visual elements in the movie. The movie needed bold music and Shiina's "Shinjuku-kei" was exactly it.

The only problem I had with it was that it was so distinctly Shiina Ringo. Since I've been listening to her off an on for years even if I hadn't gone into the movie not knowing that she had done work for the soundtrack I would have recognized her style right away. I found myself trying to remember which song featured her in a Sakuran-esque look (not Ringo no Uta but rather it was Tsumiki Asobi) which was also distracting, but after I figured it out I was good again.

Personally I'm at a lost to think of a better choice. I can think of a dozen people, who could have been easily picked, who really could have ruined the movie. Most of the people I know who have watched Sakuran were either used to her or have since become fans, pre-knowledge of her style might have helped (some of) us. Perhaps you should consider listening to a wider selection of her music before you decide to never watch it again? I guess she could be a bit jarring to the uninitiated. Or just make another post complaining about it, which will work just as well.

FOund the music interesting, but wish there would be some special feature on the DVD describing it.

What?! I give this movie 10 points based on it's soundtrack alone. If Shiina Ringo is selling, I'm buying.

That soundtrack may possibly be the worst thing about this god-awful movie. :(
