good article anywhere?

Hello again,
is there a good analysis of the movie available somewhere?
I would like to know.

To start with, for example, why did Ichikawa feel the need to remake it? What did he see in this movie? Was it supposed to be his "testament" -did he know it was going to be his last and did he want to "leave a message"?
I know it's been done before -the great Imamura and "Narayama" if I'm not mistaken, or Hitchcock and "the man who knew too much".

As a matter of fact, I probably prefer the first version (but everyone is entitled to their opinions).

Is it outlandish to suggest there might be a "Twin Peaks" reference at some stage: when the long-haired "bodyguard" emerges from behind a mannequin, not unlike "Bob" in the series... / The garden also somehow reminded me of 60s cult series "The Prisoner".

How is the movie seen in Japan? Is it a classic? Has it spawned cultural references (I see on the official website that merchandise is available) or parodies?

Does the detective reappear in other stories?

All tips much appreciated.

Good questions. I'd love to know too.
... did he know it was going to be his last ...
I'd say so, since he was 91 when he made it, an achievement in itself IMO.

The first was successful, but this remake appears so little seen, you'd have to think it could be hardly accepted as a classic. I think it is pretty ordinary.🐭
