Vengeance 2006 Review

Vengeance took place on June 25th 2006 and was hyped as the return of DX. The same two guys that have been killing eachother for 3 1/2 years are friends once again. This is a production of Raw so the hosts are King and JR

Match #1

Singles Match

Kurt Angle Vs Randy Orton

Apparently Kurt is evil again soley on the reason he was drafted to ECW and tried to break Orton's ankle. So Orton is playing babyface/tweener. This is just like WCW 1999/2000 where guys were switching sides every other ppv. Also, this is Orton's first big match back after being suspended post mania for taking a dump in one of the divas handbags, or he said something derogatory, I forget which incident it was. They do some mat wrestling to start which Kurt wins then they fight outside where Kurt tries a german suplex on the floor but Orton fights him off. Back inside Orton pounds away until he tries a chinlock and Angle turns it into a sort of modified angle slam/samoan drop. Orton fights back and while Angle is down he heads up but Angle gets him with the possum throw off the top rope and it's a double KO. Orton counters and angleslam into his backbreaker thing for 2. Orton undoes a turnbuckle then Kurt reverses an RKO attempt. Kurt hits the rolling germans and goes to the ankle lock. Orton rolls through and Angle goes into the exposed corner and that's enough for an RKO to finish it at 12:45. I didn't care for this one a whole lot. 2 1/2 stars.

Match #2

Singles Match

Eugene w Jim Duggan, Doink The Clown And Kamala Vs Umaga w Estrada

Estrada rambles on about whatever I can't understand. Total squash. Umaga gets the win at 1:37. Duggan and Doink get beat up and Estrada stops Umaga before he can fight Kamala and the crowd boos. Kamala is another guy that doesn't age. DUD!!!

Match #3

Two Out Of Three Falls Match

This match was born out of the very real behind the scenes squabble where Flair wrote in his book that Foley is just a stuntman. Foley could of easily wrote that Flair is a washed up hack who should of hung it up in 96. Crowd starts a Foley sucks chant and they mill around the ring. Foley takes over and goes for Mr Socko who is dressed up with a robe and blonde hair. Flair uses the ball grabber. Flair knocks Foley down and goes up top and hits the flying forearm shot and he hurts his knee on the way down. Foley tries a figure four and Flair counters to a small package for the first fall. Flair tries a figure four and before Foley can tap he hits Flair with a garbage can for a lameass DQ win for Flair at 6:57. Foley beats him stupid with the barb wire bat before leaving. That was just a crap match to further their feud. 1 star.

Match #4

Triple Threat Intercontinental Championship Match

Carlito Vs Shelton Benjamin Vs Johnny Nitro w Melina

Nitro gets tossed and Benjamin tries for a quick roll up on Carlito for 2. Nitro watches from outside as Carlito beats on Benjamin. Nitro springboards in, and drops Carlito. Shelton and Nitro scuffle outside and Carlito hits them both with a springboard somersault plancha, and the crowd finally wakes up. Carlito gets a nice huricinarana on Nitro. Shelton hits Carlito with a flapjack for 2. Nitro ropes Benjamin and goes for a huracinrana, but Benjamin counters. Carlito with a surprise Victory Roll for 2 on Benjamin. Nitro then hits a monkey flip on Nitro, who does a 360 degree flip into a dropkick by Carlito on Benjamin. Nitro puts Carlito on the top rope, but Benjamin causes Johnny to fall down and crotch himself into a tree of Woe. Shelton goes up for a superplex, but Nitro sits up and grabs Shelton and german suplexes him at the same time while Benjamin is superplexing Carlito, which draws a well deserved holy **** chant.
Carlito is lands a double springboard back elbow. Carlito dumps Nitro to the floor, but Shelton lands an enziguri on Carlito. Carlito gets up and lands the backcracker. Then Nitro grabs Carlito and tosses him outside and pins Shelton at 12:09 for the title. Im going 3 stars.

Match #5

WWE Championship Match

Rob Van Dam Vs Edge w Lita

Edge takes RVD down and Edge mocks RVD. RVD uses a monkey flip on Edge and Edge lands on his feet but gets rolled up for 2. Edge misses a cross body, and Rob does a standing moonsault for 2. Stepover wheel kick, but Edge bails on the rolling thunder. Baseball slide by RVD, and the he follows that with a moonsault off the security wall. RVD throws Edge into the ring, and Lita distracts RVD long enough for Edge hit a sunset flip powerbomb to the floor. Edge rolls RVD in for 2. Edge tries a surfboard and RVD fights out.
RVD punches Edge to the apron, and then gets a cross body, sending them both to the floor. RVD drapes Edge over the wall, but misses the spinning leg drop. Edge then ends up powerbombing RVD onto the security wall! That was just sick. Edge with a pendulum back breaker. In the corner, RVD reverses a charge, but Edge prevents a tornado DDT. But RVD gets a springboard side kick. RVD lands a german suplex for 2. RVD goes for the rolling thunder, jumps up and powerslams him for 2. RVD fights back, and hits the jump kick off the top. He climbs again, does a somersault off the top, into a rolling thunder then jumps up into the split legged moonsault for 2. JR points out nobody has kicked out of that move. I guess he doesn't count EVERY Raw match from 2002-2004 where RVD used the move and tried a pin. RVD bumps the ref unintentional then Lita passes Edge the spinner belt. RVD kicks that back in his face then he goes up but Lita crotches him. Edge gives him a super ddt but it only gets a slow 2 1/2 from the ref. Edge sets for the spear as Lita wedges a chair in the corner and Edge charges but RVD dodges. Edge hits the chair and lita gets some of it and she's knocked off the apron then RVD hits the 5 star frogsplash for the pin at 17:55. Good stuff. 3 stars.

Match #6

Kane Vs Imposter Kane

The imposter is Festus before he becamse Festus. He's wearing Kane's old full body suit from 1999 and he has the original Kane entrance. He tries the pyro bit and Kane beats the hell out of him. Imposter comes back with Kane's offense. Kane gets a superplex, and Kane heads to the top rope. Fake Kane sits up and chokeslams real kane for what should of been a shoking pin at 7:07 but the fans simply didn't care, you could hear a pin drop in the arena. This is Underfaker revisted. 1/2 star. Some ****head thought that storyline was worth recycling.

Match #7

Lumberjack Match

John Cena Vs Sabu

There are Raw and ECW guys working outside. Sabu toss Cena to the floor and Cena fights back. Cena gets a fisherman’s suplex for two. Sabu gets tossed, but the ECW lumberjacks throw him back in. Cena gets sent out and the ECW guys pummel him. Sabu keeps pitching Cena out for the "heels" to beat up. Sandman canes Cena then he is sent back in.ssed again, as Sandman canes Cena. Sabu hits a triple jump moonsault then tries the camel cluth but Cena powers out and Sabu lowblows him. Triple jump leg drop gets 2. Arabian face buster gets 2. Sabu misses something off the top and gets the five knuckle shuffle and a fight breaks out between the lumber jacks. Sabu chucks a chair at Cena's face then the ECW guys prop Cena on a table for Sabu but Viscera saves then Cena screw up by FUing Sabu through the table but his back misses the table and he splats on the floor pretty hard. You fkd up chant follows. STFU ends it at 6:46. Didn't like it. 1 1/2 star.

Match #8

Handicap Match

DX Vs The Spirit Squad

It's 2 on 5 favoring the Squad....so DX will probably win it in under 8 minutes.
Shawn chops Mitch. DX cleans house and Johnny gets busted open. He's bleeding from the nose which starts to monkey wrench the main event. Johnny tags right in and puts no a karate bandana and does some flailing around which makes Shawn second guess fighting a possible schitzo, so he tags HHH. HHH hands him his ass. Mikey tags in and gets clobbered. Kenny cheapshots HHH and they commence the beat down. Kenny gets neckbreakered, and they race for the tag. HBK clears the ring and lands the big elbow on Mikey. He stomps the foot, but the Squad break it up, and Johnny lands a spinkick. Nicky gets the tag, but only a 2 count. HBK eats a chair shot, and then a bulldog off the trampoline from Nicky for 2. Triple H throws the trampoline. HBK ducks a charge, and then lands a double DDT to make the hot tag to Triple H. High Knee, Spinebuster and HHH goes for the pedigree, but the Squad stops it. DX clears the ring, but HBK ends up outside. They hold him, while Mikey goes airborne with the trampoline, but HBK moves and the Squad goes down in a heap. Sweet chin music on Nicky and a pedigree to Kenny ends it all at 17:48. Eh. 2 stars. More of a goofy comedy match.

Overall Opinion: Crowd seemed dead for most of the show. Maybe it was just bad audio on the cd. Nothing memorable. The IC title match was the best thing I think.

Final Score: 3.8 stars is fitting for this throwaway show.
