Kudos for Diversity - Strong Female Characters

- The wife whom knew trouble was brewing and felt the need to flee. Her written account of what happened greatly informs the entire film. (along with the sea Captain's log) Although her words were dismissed in 1883, here they are over a hundred years later, resonating throughout the story.

- The young Indonesian woman whom told the tales of her ancestors and their experience of the volcano. "We are not afraid." Such courage and countenance.

- The lighthouse keeper's wife and her protective nature towards her family and her dog.

- The native woman whom died trying to protect the baby.

- The courage and leadership of the girl whom drank from the bucket and sang.

They are all relatively tiny roles but they were important. So refreshing. It's like these writers have encountered actual women! :)

Susan, "but I was thinking..." Leo, "STOP! Thinking is for losers!" - Scandal's satirical message.

This series was complete PC fiction. And had the typical, hypocritical BBC agenda of condemning other Western countries for colonialism, suppression and discrimination while ignoring the British Empire was the worst offender.
