Wishing I had listened. . .

. . .to the advice of other posters who gave this film a poor review. I can't believe I actually wasted 3 hours of my life watching it. Oh, I know it isn't a 3 hour film but that is how long it took me to finish it. I kept stopping for cookie breaks, potty breaks, phone-call-to-my-BFF breaks, ANYTHING to break up the monotony. I like to think of myself as intelligent, certainly cerebral enough to sit through a movie and enjoy a character-driven plot that has very little or no script whatsoever. Somehow, I couldn't do it this time around. I kept waiting, waiting, WAITING for something big to happen and it just never did. Even the beautiful Colin Firth (of whom I am a huge fan and have been for about 15 years) just wasn't enough to hold my attention. Really wishing I hadn't bothered at all.

I just watched it with two other people. One seemed to like it. The other left the room a couple times and didn't bother to say "Pause it while I leave the room. " Like you I was waiting for something huge to happen.

You need to watch the extras on the DVD to understand what this movie is about. I thought it was a sweet movie, and it really didn't have an "American " end to it. It had a proper ending.

Didn't have an American end? Had a proper ending? Haha. Because American endings are in no way ever realistic and everyone else's end is proper and perfect and just the way the life really is.

I hope you like feminist rants because that's kind of my thing.

No people should not have to consult dvd extras to "discover the hidden meanings" of movies. That's generally seen to be the director's/writer's tasks. In any case, as other posters have noted there is none with this film. It's about as vacuous as your comments about "American" and "proper endings".🐭

It was unbelievably boring! I wanted to smack the girls for various reasons. What child over the age of five doesn't know it's STUPID to cover the driver's eyes? THAT almost made me stop it right there….but I kept doing because I expected more from a scipt that Colin chose.

The scenes would tempt you into expecting something exciting or dangerous would happen then nothing! WTH? And the ending was the worst ever. To those who loved this movie: I expect you watch so many films you have a broad range of what's considered entertainment. I have a lot of great things to do….wasting 2 hours on a nothing film isn't high in my book.

I totally agree! I found the movie incredibly drawn out and all the characters insufferable. The girl who played mary was a good actor but the character was incredibly odd. As soon as she put her hands over her mothers eyes I actually began to hate her character and had no sympathy for her at all. I also kept thinking her father should discipline her for running off all the time but no.. nothing. So in the end I was left with sever annoyance for all characters and no sympathy... somehow i dont think that was the aim of the movie
