the worst film you will ever see in your entire life.

ok im going to be extremely blunt because this film doesn't deserve any attention. i only hope someone will read this and in turn not bother literally pissing an hour and a half of their life away.

there is no story. when people say this about a film they are usually wrong (it does contain one, its just not very good) or angry about something in the story. when i say this i mean there isn't actually any story. you watch a dad and his two daughters in italy for a few days over summer before they start school. nothing interesting happens throughout. i was led to believe it was an eerie supernatural chiller. i was waiting and waiting for something, anything through its very slow pace and then boom...credits.

after the film, everyone i was with were in shock at how we had wasted a fraction of our lives on this trallop.
do yourself a favour and dont waste your time.

reply

What shoking notions are like this!

How do you know when not you, but other person is just wasting the time?
I'm enjoying the film from start to the end.

And on the contrary, got extremely bored when I someone made me see something like "action" - they are false through and through.
Several times I was trying to watch one or other 'Lord of the Rings', but never could stand even half of an hour of it. Boring and silly.
All of actions, fantasy, detective stories and most of comedies are made just as baby's dummies for never grown-up children.

Very good and genuine Drama is such rarity.
And never offers you "nice and soothing answers" for your comfort and liking.
Life never does either.

reply

ok fair enough, i suppose there must be a few people in the world that enjoyed this somehow.
but don't accuse lord of the rings of being boring, you've shot yourself in the foot there.
and silly? its fantasy.
the thing is this film doesn't fall under any genre because it is so pointless.
i was desperately trying to find a reason to keep watching: find it compelling in any way, learn something, a shocking twist to put it back on track, anything!!
it leads nowhere. this isn't very good drama. i felt nothing for any of the characters as i wasn't pulled into their lives like any good drama.
the 'story' and screenplay could have been written in a day or two.

perhaps gorye you find this ultra boring-reality piece of crap interesting because it is reality and you can relate to it. but films are about entertainment and for me i dont want to be bored to death over an average families mundane life for a few weeks.
so before you indiscreetly accuse me and others of not being able to handle or understand a film like this remember why you watch films in the first place.

i dont always expect answers from a film, its actually quite refreshing when i dont, but this doesnt even offer any questions.
perhaps theres a reason very good and genuine drama like this is such a rarity?

reply

Correction...
Almost the worst film you will ever see in your entire life.
Trust me, Vinyan was worse.

reply

A mundane life? Really? How many people do you know that have had this life experience? Do you actually know what the word 'mundane' means?

It's one thing to be an idiot; it's sosmething else altogether to announce it in public. If you find it refreshing when you don't get answers from a film why are you complaining?

If you believe 'films are about entertainment' then read some reviews before you watch films like this. They are obviously pitched at someone with an IQ higher than that of celery. The fact that you didn't enjoy the film is your loss, not incompetence on the part of the director.

And speaking of incompetence, what on earth is 'trallop' supposed to mean?

reply

mundane? yes, really. everyones life has some story, most are pretty typical and boring. this being one of them. im sure a chapter of your life has heartbreak and something new comes along. it shouldn't be put onto a film though, especially with this direction.

again the film didn't ask anything. it was unnecessary in every sense of the word. Have you actually seen it?

so it was the directors idea all along to make the film boring? he wasn't trying to entertain in any way? ok il be sure to check reviews for that in future.

i'd like to hear your ideas on the film, rather than blasting what i say. maybe if your IQ is so much higher than mine you'd have no problem proving me wrong and explaining what made this film so good

reply

I repeat, since you are obviously a bit slow to understand. In what sense do you imagine that the loss of a wife and mother due to the silliness of one of the daughters is 'typical and boring'? Has it happened to you? Anyone you know? Is it such a commonplace occurrence that it has become banal?

Of course I've seen the film. Did you imagine I comment on these boards on films I haven't watched? How stupid would that be?

Michael Winterbottom has never made a boring film in his life. He certainly has some boring viewers, but no boring films.

I have no intention of feeding your ego by explaining to you what makes this film worthwhile and very watchable. What would be the point? You either get it or you don't get it, and I don't think, from what you have written, that you will ever get it.

And you still haven't explained what a trallop is.

reply

yes, i know you've seen the film. (rolls eyes)

People lose relatives and close people all the time, in different circumstances. It's very sad and perhaps could be made into a decent film. this isn't a good example. it turned out to be the most boring experience in my life. Im sorry if it was a highlight of yours. And what if something similar had happened to me? Would that make me right? Should each and everyones story be made into a film because this 'special' case has? No, at least not like this. This film could have been made significantly better as michael winterbottom failed at making this engaging in any respect at all.

Anyway its pointless arguing over a film when you wont express your opinion isn't it so ill end it here.

you're obviously all bark and no bite. you say you won't but the truth is you can't explain why you like this film or any reason to watch it (ie you're not that clever). You explaining yourself wasn't for my ego, as much as your paranoid world would believe. i would have respected you for trying even if i still couldn't agree. so constantly attacking my IQ for not understanding the genius of the film isn't going anywhere.

and trallop (for your ego's sake) means rubbish/crap. pronounced trollop. you won't find it in the dictionary.

reply

Wow. In four years you've made eight posts, half of which are under a thread you started with the idiotic title "the worst film you will ever see in your entire life."

And you wonder why I can't be bothered to sit down and talk you through something you have neither the capacity nor the inclination to understand.

Of course I won't find 'trallop' in the dictionary; I wouldn't even bother looking. Aren't there enough synonyms for rubbish/crap already?

Come back when you've grown up and, hopefully, when you've learned how to write in English and we'll have a nice little chat. Until then, have a mundane life, if only for your own sake.

reply

Agree with bogwart-1.
Can't get why -

1. One choose waste one's time when watching not-entertaining films,
2. Still keep wasting one's time posting something at all about them.

BHW, there's a lot of films of that kind. Be careful. Safe your money.
Yesterday I saw another not-entertaining and absolutely without action of any kind French film. "Il Y A Longtemps Que Je T'aime", 2008. Ummm, France, you know, - they have a lot of that kind.

It amazes me that people can become so abusive in their defence of a film which they have liked and others didn't.

I understand that this film is a portayal of the effects bereavement can have on a family, the mental anguish it can cause and so bring about a desperation to flee to a different life. It deals with blame and guilt and pain.

It also bored the @rse off me.

reply

thankyou mackay. you completely nailed the film. il be honest, i couldn't put what the film was about into words but what you said made complete sense. yet still it was and will be the worse film il ever see. and il make sure to give vinyan a miss!

and goyre i think its healthy to complain when a film is bad. i would normally just forget about the film but i felt compelled to do something about this one.

and bogwart... i suppose il have to live with the fact ive only wrote 8 posts (ouch) and carry on this mundane lifestyle of not arguing abusively over an imdb message board.

reply

I agree with you-the warty bog bogwart clearly doesn't have much of a life. I haven't posted much either; possibly because I'm busy living my life. With wartybog you can have an opinion-just as long as it's his! He's a cock

reply

wow, surprised about the negative comments. It's been probably the best film I've seen in the last couple of years and was coming here to post about its brilliancy.

but I guess different people, different taste.

myself, I do like slow movies where almost nothing happen.

I thought the movie was really touching, it grabbed since the first second. I didn't know a thing about the plot and even thought the movie was called Geneva after the Swiss city.

I loved the acting, the direction, the script, the music, the cinematography (omg)... the story touched me since the started and I had this thing in my chest until the very end.

Winterbottom is one of my fav directors ever. But this is his best by millions. Never made such a good movie, so perfect til now.

Maybe I'm biased cos I saw it on a very small cinema with gf by my side. and I'm Italian so maybe I'm biased cos they showed the city of Genova in such an amazing way!

sorry for the ones who didn't like it...

Anyone who suffixes his posts with an ad for his own 'controversial' blog and describes his work as a 'cult masterpiece' is expected, I suppose, to be fond of blowing his own trumpet and giving too much weight to his own subjective opinions.

You talk about these three films in such dismissive terms; makes you wonder why your name is not on the credits in the place of Winterbottom's, since it seems obvious you could do it all so much better. And for you to sit and watch (at least) four films by a director you affect to find ultimately boring takes application.

So do make sure to tell us when you've done something interesting (and I'm not equating interesting with egotistical here) and we can all get a handle on just how fascinating you are, and what a big cult you must be.

I've never been intimdated (sic) by writers, and I've never found any on here. Let alone you, you posturing fool.

Your 'work' has bearing only to the extent that it gives an idea of the individual who is asking to be taken seriously. You provide no starting-point for such a premise. You behave like a little boy who's still in the process of discovering naughty words and ideas and looking to be taken seriously for them.

If you'd started off in a reasonable fashion we could maybe have discussed the film at greater length; I have no interest in continuing this discussion with someone with delusions of adequacy.

Bogfart, you just love the sound of your own typing. You're a complete wanker.

reply

Depends on what you've seen, if you've seen films like slumdog millionaire, avatar, 2012 .... etc then surely this won't be the worse film in your life.

reply

I really wish I had read this before watching that awful, tedious drivel! Yes, Yes, I know all about the issues of bereavement blah blah blah and this could have been a good film but it was so mind-numbingly boring I lost the will to live. Even Colin Firth couldn't redeem it, which coming from me says a lot!

reply

Europen City, classical music, mundane speech, boring cinematography - Typical pretentious wank.

I don't even mind Pretentious Wank films (a genre in itself I think) but this one takes the f'cking biscuit.

"Flatly My Dear, I Don't Riverdance"

reply

The film is boring and uninteresting, but surely it's not the worst you'll see. You need to watch more films to be able to say that. A lot more. When you start a thread with that phrase, you loose credibility, you know.

reply

If you think this is "the worst film you will ever see in your entire life" you have never seen 9 Songs.

Good film

"But tonight we should have fun, not dwell on Scott Baio."

Trollop is a word which means "easy to lay slut"
The word you are searching for which is not in the dictionary is "crapola" which describes your entry, funsolong.
Trallop is not a word.

Nothing to get excited about, folks...OP just means nothing goes BOOM in the film.

No reason to fill in the blank with apologias....

reply

Just the fact that you said 'for a few days over summer before they start school' shows how little you have understood at all. Please do not feel the need to comment as it's clear you don't understand film-making in the slightest.

I thought this movie was sweet oddly enough and actually enjoyed it. Who knew?

Although while watching Lost In Translation, Bright Star and the Australian film Sleeping Beauty I did feel my life was being wasted. So I understand the feeling.

I hope you like feminist rants because that's kind of my thing.

reply

I felt the same way.

I liked Lost in Translation, but am with you on Bright Star. Never seen the Australian Sleeping Beauty.

I have to laugh a bit at any thread titled "the worst film you will ever see in your entire life" posted on any board -- and there usually is at least one. I've seen some bad films in my life but couldn't tell you which I'd consider the worst. Although Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" would have to be at or near the top of that list.
