How can i be lost, if i've got nowhere to go?

I'm confused too. They are based on sculptures from Michelangelo's Medici Tomb. There is also an epigraph from Michelangelo in the first episode. I have no idea if the statues are just there while other characters are talking, or are characters themselves.

reply

A third confused soul. They were supposed to stop talking right after the old man died. Presumably he was just another split personality case. But, even after he was dead, they just kept right on talking. So, I guess they are the old man's entourage, like Iggy and Pino were for Reel and Vincent.

They are the council of advisers for the Regent...they are artificial intelligences who "speak" each through a different statue and, apparently, each have different personalities.

They were created by Ergo for management of the Administration division and handed over to the Regent when Ergo left.

They're named after real life philosophers so I assume the AIs don't just have different personalities but different ways of thinking so when they reach a consensus on something, oboy, it was thought through.

It's not nihilism if there's a question mark at the end.

The talking statues are actually Auto-Reivs; specifically assigned to the Regent. Their appearance as lifeless statues is meant to portray either their old and traditional way of thinking or the fact that they were the older models for Auto-Reivs.

The statues are actually Auto-Reivs; they are the entourage to the Regent. With him unable to speak, they are his voice.
