Inspired by 'Equilibrium'?

For those who have seen the previews for this awsome looking anime, did you notice something, I don't know, "familiar" in the gun play and cinematics of Tres Iqus, the the gun crazy priest? The more and more I look at them the more I'm convince that he has to be practitioner of GunKata. Even the clip of seeing him from ground level with the barrels of his guns burning red is an exact copy of that in Equilibrium. Did anyone else notice this?

reply

Yep! It's a direct homage to EQ.

reply

yeah, i noticed that too.

reply

It was the first thing I noticed. After the darkness fell and Tres began shooting, I thought, "I bet they'll rip off Equilibrium with the glowing gun barrels." and I was right! It's not a bad thing, I hope they do more of it.

reply

All I can say is Tres is one bad ass android. I only have the first volume and, oh my god! Totally awsome character.

reply

NO MAN!

This ain't no homage or 'inspired'

This was a direct rip-off. No where did the director even attempt to associate himself with any characters from Equilibrium or 'GunKata' This director is just trying to cash in on the moment of Equilibrium and Hellsing. TOTAL RIP-OFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIP OFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

No special thanks to Equilibrium, Kurt Wimmer, or notin'

reply

You don't have to mention a special thanks for it to be a homage. For instance, Joss Whedon was inspired by Kitty Pryde from X-Men to create Buffy but he only mentioned it in an interview. He never gave a 'special thanks'. And on X-Men:Evolution, the creators were fans of Buffy so they had Kitty and Rogue do an exact duplicate of the dance Faith and Buffy had at the Bronx. No special thanks there, either. They only mentioned it when a fan brought it up.

Yes, but there is a big difference from creating Buffy from an X-men character to copying the exact moves of gun-kata and the exact camera angle shots of the exact replicated action sequence to the exact special effects gimicks and all the tiny little details too. Have you not seen Equilibrium, it's really good.

reply

Well its just using common elements or recreating similar scene , its no big deal. I havnt heard when Wilmer would thank Ray Bradbury for taking his idea of Fahrenheit 451 for society where books are outlawed and are burned and character who is suposed to fight against books is turned/

reply

Yeah, but, it's not just Fahrenheit 451, it's also 1984, Brave New World, the Nazis for crying outloud. This idea of a world of book burning is not just isolated to one man. But Kurt Wimmer's gun-kata was entirely his creation.
