Jeez. for a canon character

Esther is such a Mary-Sue, it detracts from the rest of the show. I can't stand her at all. I hope her Sueishness gets downplayed in later episodes. I'm only on episode 6

I agree completely.

From the tone of her voice to the shape of her eyes, it's sickening.

I cannot help but wonder how the same creator of an anime can create such intricate male characters and on the same brain waves create such simple and predictable female characters.

You're right, it's not all female characters. It just seems to be the main interest or character that is often stereotypical. I would probably have enjoyed the series more if they'd focused on any of the other female characters as lead.

Caterina is awesome...I wish we'd seen more of her, but Esther was annoying....I agree

Esther sickens me as well. In the novels, she's not really that sueish. It was kind of cool how she lead a rebellion against the Marqui. In the Manga....ick. Anime? *barfs* She's too meek. I want the badass Esther from the novels!!

Yeah, Esther is a LOT better in the novels. She's cute in the manga...but I think manga!Esther probably annoys me the most. But anime!Esther is really bad too....

I definitely agree. Novel Esther actually makes herself useful (well so far, I'll see if that still holds true when "Ibelis" is released.) =P.

Typical misogynistic response by somebody blinded by the "Bishies" as "great characters". If there's any big "Mary Sue" in Trinity Blood is Abel Nightroad, and, novel wise, Hugue (who is the more dull character ever who merits his own stories in EVERY single RAM unlike his partners of the Ax. BORING).

Esther, Anime wise, was PAINFUL I agree, however she was barely... there at all to even call her a Mary Sue, she didn't feel she had ANY weight of the story thanks to the destruction of the plot. ROM novels she's a willful, beautiful human woman who changes from terrorist leader who hates vampires (and she was uber there, would have killed Gyula in the beginning if wasn't for Abel saving his ass when he arrived to István, her group and she setup an attack on the train station) into wise ruler (new Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen) that supports coexistence in a self-discovery journey. Her change is gradual and very well done.

Manga wise, she's more tsundere than the always prim and proper regal novel!Esther, Kiyo does more relationship fanservice but more or less goes the same routes (Anime skipped the MOST important defining person in her mission. Not a man, but a woman: Shahrazad al-Rahman). He started so so but he got there in her strength by act 35+. Her design changes and slowly blooms to the beauty that always was novel!Esther.

TB anime pretty much SUCKS for the fanbase in adapting the complex female and male characters we all love. Tres' devotion/crush for Caterina? Removed. Esther got shafted too, unsurprisingly. Havel? The traitor? Made suddenly Caterina's right hand man. Astaroth's tovaras? Len, mysteriously goes from loli-to burly man. Etc. The list of damage is endless.

Not to mention, Esther's mistakes are CALLED OUT. Even Abel slaps her for it. Didn't he?

Or you mean Abel? You know, the genocidal nutjob that killed millions of human beings and turned into dramatic wangster who is super popular with girls for no reason? His "mistakes" are typical Angsty Stu stereotypical. This is even more truthful in the Anime where he goes 100% Krsnik WHICH IS AGAINST CANON. ._. 100% release is the reason why 01 possessed Cain.

Rule bending his own canon = Sue trait.
