How do I use the chat in a multiplayer match, in my manual it says b, but i press it and nothing happens. Im talking about the eqivilent of what the F3, F4 buttons do in 1942 by the way.

Menu based chat is not implemented the same way as BF1942.
To give orders like that you need to press and hold Q then use the mouse to select your orders.
voice chat to squad members is "b". To chat to the commander do "v", or maybe it's the other way around. Make sure you set up your microphone using the provided utility.
