I think it's different. I thought The O.C. was ok, I'm not really into teen soaps but I loved Hidden Palms. It had melodrama, like most shows, but it was more of a dark suspenseful story (which is very much Williamson's trademark). Also, the dialogue, self-awareness, and wit are very Williamson-esque.

Kevin Williamson actually mentioned that he was a fan of The O.C. and when wrote the Pilot for Hidden Palms (originally titled Palm Springs) he realized that it was sort of similar to The O.C. So for the rest of the series he made sure to dispel those similarities and make Hidden Palms different from The O.C.

It's unfortunate, some people judged the show before they saw it just because it had pools, golf courses, good looking people, etc. The show was more than just those things, it had more substantial content w/ the whole murder mystery.

A "bunch" of cast members?...that's an exaggeration.

Pumpkinpasties, formerly cosmogirlrocks, you were a fan of Hidden Palms. I remember back before Hidden Palms aired you would always comment on how you hoped it would be the same as The OC but now after Hidden Palms ended you claim to dislike the show and call it a ripoff. How is that a true fan? How is it that your views have changed?

Gossip Girl is a true ripoff of The OC; the characters, style, concept are a spitting image of a lesser version of The OC and Josh Schwartz's work. I'm surprised you don't find Gossip Girl insulting, since it's practically a recreation of The OC. I don't think I need to explain any further, Hidden Palms is different.

I thought the episodes got better, I felt like the later episodes started to focus more on the mystery while the earlier seemed to have more teen drama. Maybe you were wanting and expecting a straightforward teen drama, which Hidden Palms wasn't.

Gossip Girl has the whole New York scene but I don't think it uses that aspect to it's fullest ability. The show still feels like I'm watching another ordinary teen drama. While Hidden Palms was more about the mystery of murder and the dark secrets underneath a glossy facade. Hidden Palms was set in a desert town, which is also new to teen dramas.

I guess we have different tastes. I've watched Gossip Girl and feel guilty after watching it, while I love watching Hidden Palms.

Just because someone doesn't share your sentiments they aren't stupid, pumpkin. K?

IMO, the first two eps. were slightly O.C. like, but the rest was nothing like it. I think Williamson and the rest of the writing staff did a good job of blending the teen (and adult) melodrama w/ the main mystery.

My only complaint is that I got hooked on a show that ended way too quickly.

Every storyline? please explain....

I've watched The OC and I'm not a hardcore fan or anything like that. Hidden Palms was very cliche in the first episode but afterwards it got much better creatively. Even the media and critics say so.

Hidden Palms seems more similar to Dawson's Creek, IMO, with the character types and relationships. Although, at the same time Hidden Palms is very different from Dawson's Creek (wealth vs. average, desert vs. east coast, suspenseful mystery vs. straightforward soap, etc.) As for comparing it to The OC, I think the differences outweigh the similarities.

If you don't like HP anymore then why do you bother complaining about it on the HP boards and other boards as well?...
