Watching right now, Quick Question

Ok so I just finished watching part 3 before this, and in that Lance was the Pumpkinhead, and at the end he was set free, and the girls corpse became the new seed correct??

Now here comes part 4, and it starts out with Lance again as a Ghost, did they just ignore part 3, and that one, and this one basically just have the creature in common??
