By far the worst movie ever

Horrible movie, it wasn't even funny.

reply

I don't know what you were watching. I thought it was a lot of fun.

reply

Yeah, they were definitely trying to push the edge on gruesomeness. The push through the fence was a new one on the collapsing room theme.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's one of the worst movies ever, there are worse offenders out there (a Leslie Nielsen vehicle - titled "Naked Space" for dvd - comes to mind), but yes it was egregiously bad. The 'acting' of the ghost inmates stood out particularly as an element that often took you right out of the film and reminded you that you're watching a film and a bad one at that; making it seem like a college kids' ill-conceived feature film project acted by friends with little or no acting experience. Some of the main actors weren't so bad and Trejo is always decent.
The implausibilities are too numerous to mention, even for a horror movie, giving it minimal credibility even for a project of minimal budget. The B-grade CGI effects were none too impressive, the low-budget Aussie film "Undead" kicked its butt it that category (and every other one for that matter).

I'd be curious to hear what the budget was for this film and if Sci-Fi Channel is interested in giving me the same amount to produce something that probably couldn't turn out any worse than this. It probably even made House of the Dead 2 seem better, but maybe not RotLD: Necropolis, both shown on Sci-Fi Channel before going (almost) straight-to-dvd. Their track record isn't too good so far with their big premiere movies. My friends and I could write better zombie films than those 2 films (I weep for Mark A. Altman's career post-"Free Enterprise"). The script for "Haunted Prison" wasn't good either and some of the dialogue was downright laughable, and not in the way a writer would want it to be. Better luck next time Sci-Fi Channel.

reply

Ok, let me rephrase it, worst horror movie ever.

The acting is beyond laughable, the characters in the movie have single digit IQs, and the deaths are not particularly good.

In a horror movie, I like a decent storyline or a gorefest. This was neither.

Maybe I have SciFi to thank for the lack of gore, but probably not.

reply

Lack of gore?
O.o.
Dude.

QUOTE: "By far the worst movie ever."

Not even close, dude.

The special effects were awesome. The deaths rocked. The acting was good.

Most people who see a film that they hate, stop watching. Sounds like it was viewed entirely with the venom spewed about it. If it the film was shut off early, then it was never given a chance. Too bad.

reply

I thought it was quite funny during some parts..just because of how unrealistic the deaths were. And I mean unrealistic for even a HORROR movie, haha. But it wasn't the worst I've saw..I thought Jake Busey was really the best thing about it.

I am not into gore, but like its said above it had my attention when I was just wanting to veg out.
It was an effective movie.

I watched most of the movie, but I guess I missed the scene where a person got pushed through the bars by the chains or something like that....was that the first death? Or was that some where later... I saw the licences plate machine death, the girl getting chopped in half, barb wire, electric chair, and the guy who was impaled, but not that scene... plus sadly I missed a little of the end where I guess they explained why everything was happening...I think that was right before that one guy fell in the fire at the end...so pretty much I don't know why everything happened and I don't really remember the characters names, but oh well... it was watchable to say the least, but I was watching law & order too.

reply

Having a double digit IQ is also pretty bad.

but it was worth watching at least Jamie Elle Mann in the shower

reply

try watching the likes of scarecrow, insectedal, skeeter, or ginger bread man or even house of the dead then give your worst evers.

besides, i myself love bad movies. they are fun to watch and the low budget fx are hilarious.

reply

I totally agree. I look at bad Sci Fi / Horror with much more amusement than the majority of the junk that Hollywood dishes us to pay $10.00 a ticket to see in the movie theater.

These 8 figure per movie actors are way overpaid due to the hype of their star power as opposed to their raw talent.

I don't mean to offend, cause an argument, or start a riot like alot of these topics seem to do, but if you consider this to be the worst movie, you obviously haven't seen many horror movies. But, just my opinion. I realize you have your own and I respect that, but I don't see the need to come here and bash it.

I agree with you completely. I have seen a LOT of horror movies. And I usually even enjoy the really bad ones. This movie was laughable it was so horrible. It's as though the director was working especially hard to work in every horror movie cliche that has ever been done before. There are too many plotlines that are twisted around each other. Nothing is getting explained.

The whole point of this film was gore and stupid cliche "sex" themed scenes, like the chick on the toilet and the shower. Ugh.

I've seen bad movies before, but this one was painful to watch. And I have sat through some bad movies.

I give it a 0.5/10.

hahahha aGREED. i'm starting to think the people who're saying "you must not have seen many horror movies" are the ones that haven't seen many horror movies... i've seen everything from the controversial salo or the 120 days of sodom, cannibal holocaust, and guinea pig series to the classic exorcist and rosemary's baby to the current hostel, 28 days later, yada yada yada and this is BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD.

it's so flat!
there's no underlying commentary about human nature, no realistic elements of horror, just NOTHING a good horror flick has!

oi vey mi amors
but i suppose it's not so bad for a movie i saw for the first time on scifi. i mean, what more could you expect, right? :]

reply

I'm watching it right now on Sci-Fi channel, and must say, it's a bit funny. Like that scene when pipe bursts and spills s**t on Jasmin. I didn't expect it.
Or "Hang in there".
Now my question is: why did they went back inside prison? I wouldn't.

reply

I also just finished watching it on Sci-Fi. It certainly wasn't good, but I enjoyed watching it somewhat. It definitely is not the worst movie I've ever seen, and certainly not the worst horror flick. For one, Silent Night Deadly Night was probably one of my least favorite horror movies ever. And the many sequels to things like Halloween and Friday the 13th. Halloween III in particular was absolutely terrible.

reply

This movie is by far not the worst horror film ever. Jake Busey plays a good part and there are plenty of hot chick scenes to help fill in the slow spots. Don't get me wrong, this is by far NOT the best horror film of all time, but I actually found myself watching it a second time when I saw it was on, which, for me, means it's an enjoyable enough movie. 13 Ghosts goes along the same storyline as this movie and I'd watch this movie before I'd watch 13 Ghosts again.

reply

The SciFi channel went ahead and settled this thread all for us by following tonight's showing of Hauted Prison (Death Row) with what I feel is THE worst horror flick of all time (or at least of those I've seen so far). Penny Dreadful which was....well....PRETTY FREAKIN' DREADFUL all right. What an aweful movie! What was Mimi Rogers thinking when she took this role as Orianna?

reply

This movie is BAD...but NOT the worst horror movie ever by a long shot!

IMO, that honor goes to Doomed (2007)...its Survivor meets Dawn of the Dead remake...the worst concept for a movie imaginable & almost made me gouge my eyes out!

Personally, they showed the "ghosts" too soon in this flick which pretty much ruined the whole experience, but it had its redeeming qualities any true "horror" fan can appreciate.

1. Good makeup FX on the ghosts & the haunters.
2. Lots of blood & guts.
3. Some decent scares (though nothing out of this world).
4. The GORGEOUS Jamie Elle Mann.

So its gets a 4/10 from me.

so I doubt anyone from this thread is even going to see this... but anyway, just wanted to say how stupid it is to call this the worst horror movie ever. It is not. Seriously. Someone else made a big rant about how it really is. But no. It's not. You seriously have NOT seen enough horror movies if you think this is the worst one. The worst movie ever made, of any genre, is called Zombie Nation. Look it up. Compared to Zombie Nation, this movie is Citizen Kane.
