THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE TOO SERIOUS...

GET OVER YOURSELF AND GO TO ANOTHER BOARD!!!

It's meant to be funny and stupid, in that right it's an awesome movie. My God, it's not an epic docu-drama!

If you're sooo wrapped up in the "craft of movie making" why the F are you watching this?...No seriously, I'd like to know so I can understand this (not just to start fights)

I hear you. And I said this in another thread, but I'll say it again. When compared to a lot of these spoof movies that have been coming out over the past few years, this one was pretty damn good. The past two Scary Movie films, Epic Movie, Date Movie and so forth have been pretty bad. And while I hear what you're saying about they are supposed to be funny and stupid, I felt like those movies were just stupid. They were just an endless strings of not very funny jokes that really didn't fit together and in the end you forget what the movie was about. Seriously, I watched Epic Movie a few weeks ago, and for the life of me I can't remember there being any plot, just endless bad impersonations and bad jokes.

There is a good way to do a movie of this type, and I think The Comebacks didn't do a bad job at all. Naturally most people will think that Airplane and The Naked Gun are the best films of this genre, but there have been plenty worse films made that are the "Joke a minute" and silly type. The thing I liked about The Comebacks is that while there were tons of spoofs, it didn't get in the way of the story, just like Airplane, The Naked Gun, and dare I say Baseketball?

i like these kind of spoof movies, especially the sporting spoofs (not so much date movie or epic movie). Obviously this wasnt written to win an Oscar or even to be taken seriously but its a movie that you can watch for those few really funny parts. There were a lot of stupid parts, a lot of funny parts and parts when you wonder where the hell did that come from. im pretty sure the majority of movies made today, especially comedies and spoofs all include the same. i mean, if you were to come onto this board and bash this movie you are a complete moron who obviously expects every movie to be freakin perfect. everyone has their own sense of humor and im sure that has been said a million times on this site. some people like it, some people dont. thats just how it is. to the people who cant stay away from movie boards that they think suck, then thats pretty damn pathetic.

"It's meant to be funny and stupid"

Well then this movie FAILS miserably. I love stupid, funny comedies (Naked Gun, Eastbound & Down) but this movie is not funny. Honestly, how much does your sense of humor have to SUCK in order to enjoy this?

I think the reason I watch movies like this is that most of the movies it "spoofs" truly need being made fun of. They really are cliche and trite in all aspects. The Comebacks is no worse then The Replacements and should be at least a point higher because it is meant to point that out. Everyone knows what I mean. All movies can be made fun of, but as RiffTrax say "Some movies really have it coming".

Where many of these movies fail is that instead of truly making fun of the idiotic cliche ridden points of the movies they spoof, they almost seem to admire them and only do the same thing yet slightly goofy. That is NOT what I want to see. For one of these to work properly I think they need to be almost mean about it. For instance who can't see that the "homely" girl is really a very attractive girl with glasses and hair pulled back? It's so moronic yet has happened in a dozen "date" movies. Date Movie pointed this out but didn't seem to have such an edge about it.

Airplane! and Naked Gun seemed to manage without being necessarily mean spirited somehow and Police Squad may be the best series ever (for 6 episodes). But It was also novel at the time. I don't think they'd be looked at in the same way these days. Heck the Zuckers have made several more similar movies, right?

Anyway, I don't find it amazing that these movies get really low ratings. The thing that really makes me sad is some of the source material actually gets good ratings. I will continue to watch any half assed spoof as long as it tries to expose the idiocy of modern pop culture and doesn't simply try to capitalize on it. There is a difference.

Totally Agree; I'd read a lot of bad mouthing of this movie on IMDB but I still bought the DVD and when I watched it I found I thoroughly enjoyed it. It did just what it sets out to do, and that works for me. It even had a plot and story of its own. I enjoyed this and Grandma's Boy, even though that's not so much of a spoof but more just a goofy comedy.

Yeah well, I haven't seen a movie on IMDB yet that someone isn't calling "worst movie ever!!" or making a big deal out of, so yeah - I'd say ignore most of them, they're always the same people.

(I've actually lol'd a few times when I've seen the same people shouting "worst ever!!" about multiple movies ;) They're just attention seeking trolls mostly, I guess.)

if it had been funny yes...but it's puke!

Who said it was bad for not being an epic docu-drama? Write the link or quote to the thread or the critic that said that. It's bad because it's not funny.

Gags are part of the "Craft of movie making." They're the essential part of a comedy.
