Jane?

I know I haven't read this in a while, but I was sure that at the end you find out the main character's name is Jane. But, I'm assuming Juliet Landau (love her!) is playing the lead, so why'd they change it to Charlotte? Maybe I'm just missing something, but...I guess it doesn't matter. Just curious.

Yeah, that puzzled me too...but then again, in the story, Jane could have just been her other personality so it may just be a voice in the movie...

Jane is the formal form of "Jennie," who is John's sister, and one of the ones that the narrator viewed as her oppressor. We never find out the narrator's name. (A deliberate comment on the lack of personhood experienced by many Victorian women).

wouldn't the formal of Jennie be Jenifer? and the diminutive of Jane be Janie?

it easy to read incredible amounts of meaning into minutia in feminist writing though, it's encouraged

Charlotte is supposed to be the author of the yellow wallpaper, so movie is about the AUTHORS LIFE NOT THE SHORT STORY

And it is just INSPIRED not an actual biography or based on, JUST INSPIRED, meaning it can go pretty much anywhere off the topic beach as it is a fictional account INSPIRED by a person who wrote a short story.
