Pretty good, pretty good.

I was expecting THE "The Yellow Wallpaper." So I was pretty surprised to find this other story instead.

I love ghost stories and horror movies. Not so much the slasher movies. So I like to see a plot, some character development, some surprises, some scary moments, bumps in the night.

I was pretty suckered into the shocker of it all, I suppose in part because I couldn't let go of thinking it would end up more like THE "The Yellow Wallpaper." Which it does not.

This movie held my attention and gave me some scares. So I think it was pretty good.

One observation: the lead actor, who also wrote the script as an "origins" of the original story, is a terrible actor. It would've been so much better if they had hired a real actor. But maybe their budget wouldn't allow it.

The other actors were experienced and excellent.

This movie takes you back to the late 19th century. The heat of the day, when there was no a/c. The looooong days filled with no sound, except your own breath as you went about a chore. The darkness in rooms without electricity. The slow pace of life back then, compared to the hectic lives we now live.

One complaint is that some of the shots were too dark. I literally could not see what characters said they saw.

I recommend this movie to those who like more ghost story kinds of movies and are able to put up with the slow pace (although I'm not saying it's a ghost story! No spoiler here!).

Also, the Landau actress. An unusual looking (but pretty), excellent actress. She had such a delicate air about her. So dainty. I read in her bio that she's Martin Landau's and Barbara Bain's daughter, and I can see that. She looks like him! A chip off the old block. It was also great fun to see the Cartwright gal (Veronica is it?). The actress who played Jennie, the sister, is amazing. I see that she has some notable roles under her belt, and I'm not surprised.

This was pretty much my experience with the movie as well. I really enjoyed it up until the end. You may have found the husband's choice unbelievable (per your other post), I found the entire vampire plot reveal unbelievable. :) Couldn't they have come up with a better summation than defaulting to the ubiquitous and tiresome vampire explanation!?

I agree the acting, particularly by Landau and Dickey, were fantastic.
