i don't liek Jazz music at all.
but i loved that movie, it was funky and really not boring. like a 2days road movie in the life of a musician.
i learnt there is also drug, sex in Jazz like in Rock'n'roll....so shame, i thought Jazz group and people were clean and respectable. but not. all the same.

I like jazz, have followed it since I was a kid and am very versed in the history of the early players including Miles.... That is probably why I didn't really enjoy the movie as much as you did. I give Don credit for his acting... but the storyline was just not that interesting, nor did it dwell into the history of Miles enough to show how he became who he was later in life... Instead as you point out they turned it into a 2 day drug induced romp through the city.
As for drugs and sex, it was there in jazz in a big way long before rock'n'roll started the first beat... I alway find it interesting when people assume jazz musicians were cleaner than your typical rockers... I don't think you can name more than a handful of jazz legends that didn't do drugs, and not just weed but heroin which seemed to almost be a requirement in the 50's.
i had the same opinion on Nina Simone movie . surprised by the drug'n'sex things for that brillant singer.
i already loved her, but the movie made me love even more again.
i am wondering whenever it exists or not a kind of music where stars or icons'musicians don't fall into drug'n'sex'n'violence things and stay clean during their carreer.... ? Maybe the Choral Church thing or Xilophone with Rockabye Baby !

for me "Jazz" means "band", many instruments where singer is not important at all but the music is.
all the jazz music like "new orlean", i don't love.
so, yes i love Nina simone which is not a jazz singer for me.
Nina Simone is a soul singer, like Corinne Bailey Rae (i loved too).
I'm a Jazz lover and unfortunately it's true - I can think of at least 50 important Jazz artists who were heroin addicts. I haven't seen the movie yet but hopefully it's a good one. Also the new Chet Baker movie looks good, and he was another addict.
