Historical correction to Miles Davis' Missing Years

A most amazing film and performance and deserves to earn all the awards and accolades it can.

But one minor historical correction.

Miles David did not retire from the music business because he was tired of it.

His enforced absence from the music scene was due to he fact that he no showed a Miami concert at Gusman Hall sponsored by Wombat Productions (allegedly because he took a $50,000 bribe from a rival promoter who didn't want any competition - if so, it would be one of the most expensive dives ever taken by any entertainer in history).

Contrary to it says at the end of Chapter 15 of his autobiography (page 331), in October 1975, Wombat successfully sued Davis for breach of contract and damages. When Davis refused pay, Wombat attached all future record royalties and had him blacklisted by the American Auditorium Managers Association (now called the International Association of Venue Managers) for five years or until he paid Wombat the money he owed. The Association's membership included nearly every auditorium and club in America.

Davis still refused to pay up.

When the blacklist and royalty liens where scheduled to be renewed for another five years, on October 21, 1980, Davis settled for the full amount.

Wombat's attorneys subsequently requested the Court to "please dismiss with prejudice any and all actions filed in New York concerning this matter."

Coincidentally, Chapter 16 of the autobiography resumes in 1980, shortly after he had settled.

Great info. I thought the movie was good but could have been better. Cheadle's performance was excellent and one of the best of the year!
