valuable information on the DVD "extra"

I just watched the movie last night. This is NOT your "cradle to grave" documentary, instead they use a story-telling style that is analogous to the way Miles Davis created his music, and a fictional heist of a session tape is the core story.

I see from reading some comments here there is a bit of misinformation going around. First off Don Cheadle, who was a saxophonist in a jazz band in his younger days, actually plays trumpet. So, even though the final sound track has music played by Davis himself or a contemporary trumpet player, Cheadle was actually playing. As he says, he is probably as good as Davis was at age 14.

This youtube video, just about a minute long, shows him playing. Also a quick look at the son and the nephew of Davis, both of which were involved in making the movie.

This next clip is a 2-minute interview with Don Cheadle and he talks about his learning trumpet for an earlier movie and how he wanted to play correctly for "Miles Ahead." Trumpet players will especially appreciate what he explains.

Anyway in general if you enjoy this movie but have not yet seen the DVD extra then take the time to view it, you will not be disappointed. It explains what they were trying to do and includes a number of others involved with the music.
