My father Bill Evans

Anybody know if my father (pianist Bill Evans) will be portrayed in the film?

Evan Evans

reply

Probably not, as the film deals with the "lost" years, from 1975 to Miles' 80s comeback and you probably know he didn't work with him by then.

Your father made some beautiful music, I have several of his albums. He was a big part on several of Miles classic albums, I would hope he would be included in the film.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

reply

Thank you, though it looks like it's not going to cover that era. However, my father did meet with Miles a couple of times during this era as well, and those meetings must have been fascinating to be a fly on the wall for.

Loved your dad. May he rest in peace.

Since they often refer to "Kind of Blue" in the trailer, It would only make sense to acknowledge Bill Evans on the Piano. Maybe Don Cheadle had to work around that. This seems like a re-creation of the Documentary on Miles Davis. To me, all the Documentary told me about him was how Cocaine took away his gift.

I don't even see any mention of cicely Tyson in the cast. a lot is left out here.

Your father was great!

reply

Hey Mr. Evans, your father is my greatest musical influence on piano and one of the biggest in general.
I think I do recall someone mentioning that there's a brief moment where he's shown, because the film lightly touches on his pre-70s era.

Peace Piece is one of my favorite songs. So hauntingly beautiful. Are you a musician, too?

If it's any consolation, I have heartburn that is radiating my kneecaps.

Just checked the cast list. Joshua Jessen is listed as playing your father.

excited that your father will be represented in the film.
heard you on NPR recently, while you were in San Diego to promote the Bill Evans: Time Remembered documentary. i wanted badly to attend and enjoy the musical performance but had a prior engagement. can't wait to watch the docu.
"Blue in Green" means everything to me.
looking forward to Miles Ahead!

spdiana9,

Thank you. I did not realize any part of my Q&A segment for the San Diego screening of the Bill Evans "Time Remembered" documentary was broadcast on NPR. Did you catch that on a San Diego radio station?

i don't think they broadcast any part of the evening show, as you guys were discussing and promoting the upcoming event.
actually, now i wonder if i'm mistaken. i switch back and forth a lot between NPR and Jazz 88. i'm pretty sure it was Jazz 88, the college station. oops. sorry about that.

reply

There we go. That makes more sense. It was indeed being broadcast on Jazz88. Great channel! Well I'm glad you were able to tune in!

So bummed I missed the actual show! But glad for you and fellow fans.

I second that on "Blue in Green" The 24 bit remaster on Dual disc that came out in 2004. When all of a sudden Rolling Stone had "Kind of Blue" listed as number 8th most influential album of all time....IN THE NAPSTER ERA.
