Untitled Kurt Cobain Project (2009)...

I have know clue how legitimate this is, but I heard about it here. If it is for real (for next year), who would you cast as Kurt. My personal out of line view is that we would first have to legalize cloning. Then we could find somebody with like say, oh I don't know, maybe a used River Phoenix brush or something...maybe. And then, hey, go to work. And if there's anyone anywhere who thinks that I'm just grabbing at that name because he's dead too, well, listen to this theory. Go to Blockbuster or Movie Gallery or whatever you got and just (or maybe Amazon.com I think has a Director's Cut) just go and get a copy of "The Thing Called Love". Not at all for River's dubbed singing voice or very much at all for the country songs. But just watch River's mannerisms and tone of voice and personality and facial expressions and the way his hands work and how he expresses his own vocabulary and mostly for his total inability to fully look anyone in the eye. I mean, not just to do a halfbaked Kurt Cobain impression in a biobic. He would (in my mind) be the guy to get to work on stripping and tearing away his River Phoenix personality and then coming to own Kurt Cobain's for a while. But I think that if he was still here, River Phoenix would be the perfect person to do something that would (on the surface anyway) come across as morbid, depressing, sarcastic, randomly insightful, suicidal, dark and (hopefully it will be) totally and unconventionally like any other biopic. If they do it right then the film itself will not stress over whether or not it pleases every single crowd that's out there. But like with films like "Lenny", "Man On The Moon" and "I'm Not There"; it would hopefully be something that more than anything pleases and finally and ultimately satisfies (or would satisfy) Kurt Cobain himself and everyone or most of those that he came in contact with when he was alive. Anyhow ramble...what's your thoughts now...yay or nay (and/or alternate choices).

Joe Anderson could easily play Kurt Cobain, he was Max in the movie "Across the Universe".

reply

Ah goodness! I so agree, I was just talking about that last night with my friend!

I saw a thing on the AOL homepage about a year ago that had possible actors for this, ill try to look it up.

You know, my first instinctive thought to the Ryan Gosling version of Kurt Cobain was that he looks nothing like him...but, I wonder what he would be able to do with his personality and expressions and thought process if you made something in a gray area between the films "Lars and The Real Girl" and "The Believer". I think I'm still thinking about it.

reply

Shane West...but only if you reaaaally wanted to turn Kurt into a cartoon.

reply

apparently ewan mcgregor will play him. i like ewen mcgregor but i really dont see it...

reply

ha. i can see it, but I don't really like him.

definately joe anderson, however! the whole time I was watching across the universe, i was like, "oh my god. it's kurt!"

I would like to see a relative unknown play Kurt, instead of a high-profile celebrity.

reply

Yeah, I heard the same. And apparently Scarlett Johansson will play Love.

reply

well you can see it if you rent "Velvet Goldmine" where he's already played 'Curt' (and the resemblance wasn't an accident).

I certainly recommend that film over "across the universe"

reply

Ever see Charlie Bartlett? I would cast the kid in that who tried to commit suicide. Not because of that, but becuase he's about the right age, really skinny, and blonde.

reply

You're so right, I didn't even consider River Phoenix. He probably would've done a great job portraying Kurt Cobain. I can't think of a more excellent choice, dead or alive.

reply

i just had to say, that if they legalized cloning, why go for river phoenix's brush when you could go for kurt cobain himselves:)
maybe he wouldn't be up for portraying himself but hey

reply

Joe Anderson or ....... Leonardo Dicaprio (dodges flying objects)

If they really have to make a movie about Nirvana or Cobain... which they REALLY don't have to... well, Dominic Monaghan. He looks just like him, and he's played a drug abusing rock star on Lost, so... I really can't think of anyone better.
