Seriously...how do these movies keep being made?

Sci Fi...oh I'm sorry SyFy (stupid name change) seems to pump out at least 2 of these "original" movies a month. My question is how in the world do they keep being made? I know it has a tiny fraction of the budget of a "real" movie, but even still. These movies can't draw flies for ratings, and they are infamous for their horrible plots, horrible dialouge, laughable acting, and special effects that YouTubers do better.

Do they realize how badly they suck? Do they keep making them knowing most people use them for their own versions of MST3K? What's really sad is the amount of actors that I actually have heard of that have been doing the movies lately.

They make the network slightly more money than running an infomercial.

Because they are so inexpensive to make. If Syfy has rights to repeats, they also get incremental revenue for repeat airings. While the audience and ad revenue will be relatively low, it doesn't matter if the initial cost was very low as well.

Not saying I like most of these movies. Just explaining why they keep getting made. Same as all the reality shows on other channels. They are cheap to produce so the networks and channels don't need huge audience numbers to make them profitable.

A lot of these movies would be so much better with decent writing and smart directing. But apparently they don't want to pay for decent writers. Or some of these writers may actually be somewhat decent, but they toss out these nonsense scripts in an hour or two, just to make some extra money. You would hope that those writers wouldn't be so cynical and make an effort to use a brain cell or two to make something coherent. But that's not the case.

The movies don't have to be deep Oscar-caliber productions. There are low-budget movies with some thought or attempts at creating comedy or a sense of adventure without mega-movie budgets. A few of the Syfy "Original Movies" have been respectable. But most haven't. That's a shame.
